The quarterback position is one of the most difficult jobs to master in the NFL. In order to be successful, the quarterback has to know the offensive scheme like the back of his hand. The quarterback has to learn the scheme from a different perspective, because not only does he need to be familiar with his own responsibilities, he also needs to be cognizant of what every other player is doing on any given play. The field general has to navigate the center exchange, drop back, avoid the pass rush, survey the field while reading his progressions, recognize the cover scheme, and then throw the football into a tight window to a receiver all in a matter of seconds. Being proficient and efficient behind the center is one of the most taxing jobs in any professional sport.Senior Editor
