If you're new to IDP football, or just perusing this article to find out a little more about these new and exciting leagues, the concept of IDP schemes may seem confusing. 4-3, 3-4, 4-3 Tampa, 3-4 1-gap, 4-6, hybrid, there are plenty. Everyone has heard about them, but not many know how they correspond to fantasy players. Many say, "That's exactly why I don't play IDP, it's just too confusing". Even many IDP veterans don't pay enough attention to the schemes, relying more on past stats and the old (and proven) adage of selecting mainly MLBs and SSs for their squads. That method, although simplistic, is hard to argue with, as those players are generally the cogs of any IDP squad. That method does have its problems, though. For instance, how do you rank a top linebacker that moves from a 4-3 team to a 3-4, what happens when your stud MLB moves to SLB, what happens when your SS makes the move to FS? Now all the past stats and generalities go right out the window.Associate Editor
