Newsbreakers
October 22, 2008
The Red Sox will "almost certainly" pick up Tim Wakefield's 2009 option for $4 million, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:He is 42, but will come at a bargain for next season, as he racks up a lot of innings, and held a 1.18 WHIP over 30 starts in 2008.
October 14, 2008
Tim Wakefield 's knuckleball wasn't fluttering Tuesday, as he allowed five runs on six hits and two walks in just 2 2/3 innings. He was removed in favor of Justin Masterson.

Our View:Needless to say, this was not the performance the Sox were hoping for. Their bats will need to rally if they want to avoid falling into a 3-1 hole in the series.
September 28, 2008
Tim Wakefield threw five shutout innings against the Yankees in Boston's final game of the season on Sunday. He allowed just two hits and struck out three.

Our View:With the news of Josh Beckett's injury, Wakefield may now go in Game 3 of the NLDS. He has been as inconsistent as any pitcher in September.
September 17, 2008
Tim Wakefield was tagged for three home runs in 2.1 innings of work by the first place Rays on Wednesday. He allowed six total hits and six runs in the process.

Our View:Wakefield has been as inconsistent as any pitcher in baseball as of late and is becoming a migraine for fantasy owners.
September 17, 2008
Tim Wakefield bounced back from a terrible outing to throw eight shutout innings against, at the time, a streaking Blue Jays team on Friday. Wakefield should throw a quality start due to the variables in tonight's game. His ERA versus the Rays this season is a strong 2.77.

Our View:Wakefield is 17-4 with a 3.23 ERA in 30 career starts against the Rays, and 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA versus them in 2008.
