Newsbreakers
August 2, 2008
Joe Borowski has reportedly been offered a minor league deal by the Red Sox, according to the Boston Herald. If the Sox sign Borowski, he would be eligible to pitch in the postseason even if he does not appear in the major leagues until after September 1. MLB rules require only that a player be part of an organization before September 1 in order to maintain postseason eligibility.

Our View:Borowski would not see any save chances in Boston if Jon Papelbon remains intact, and his innings would be very limited in a strong bullpen.
July 10, 2008
According to PA Sports Ticker, the Cleveland Indians have officially released former closer Joe Borowski.

Our View:Even if Borowski is picked up by another MLB team, his days as a closer are most likely over. Its safe to drop Borowski in all formats.
July 4, 2008
Joe Borowski has been designated for assignment, according to Scout.com.

Our View:Borowski has been terrible as a closer and the Tribe simply could not afford to keep him. Fantasy players shouldn't keep him around either, as his days as a closer for any team are over.
July 3, 2008
Joe Borowski's role as closer will be the subject of talks among Indians management on today's off day, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Manager Eric Wedge would not say if Masa Kobayashi will take over that role. "I'm not going to speculate on that. It takes us down a road that doesn't do anyone any good," he said.

Our View:Borowski blew a save on July 1, upping his ERA to 7.56, and he hasn't pitched since. Kobayashi gave up the game winning home run last night in his second inning of work, but the fact he was going two innings of a tie game says a lot about the team's confidence in him.
June 26, 2008
Joe Borowski pitched the ninth inning on Thursday and was perfect in wrapping up his sixth save of the year to drop his ERA to 7.70.

Our View:Borowski has allowed 11 hits and three walks in eight innings in June as he just doesn't have the stuff to put away most batters. Still, he has the confidence of management, and given the struggles of others in the pen they figure to keep running him out there in save situations regardless.
