Newsbreakers
August 11, 2008
Juan Castro, originally scheduled to be in the lineup, was scratched on Monday because of a strained left groin, according to MLB.com. "Castro said he was ready to play," manager Dave Trembley said. "He feels a whole lot better than he did yesterday...Our training staff thought it would be best to give him another day, so that's what we'll do."

Our View:Castro appears really close to returning to the lineup, possibly as early as Tuesday, and though he has had trouble hitting (.177), his defense has been solid.
July 19, 2008
The Orioles acquired Juan Castro from the Rockies Saturday in exchange for minor league infielder Mike McCoy. The veteran was 0-for-10 for the Reds this year before hitting .300 in 50 at-bats with Triple-A Colorado Springs. Freddie Bynum was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk to clear a roster spot.

Our View:The O's have gotten no production from their shortstop position this year. Apparently they think Castro can change that. We disagree.
May 2, 2008
The Rockies have agreed in principle on a minor-league deal with Juan Castro, Castro's agent told the Denver Post. "We are going to Colorado," agent Oscar Suarez said. Castro, who designated for assignment by the Reds last month, is likely to report to Triple-A Colorado Springs to get some at-bats.

Our View:Depending on how Jeff Baker, Omar Quintanilla and Jonathan Herrera fare at second base, Castro could be up with the big club soon, playing either short or second.
May 2, 2008
Looking for depth following the injury to Troy Tulowitzki, the Rockies have expressed interest in free agent Juan Castro. Castro was designated for assignment by the Reds last month.

Our View:Hopefully the Rox don't envision Castro in a regular role. He wouldn't be a bad guy to have around as a backup, though.
April 21, 2008
The Reds designated Juan Castro for assignment on Monday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Our View:Castro opened the year in Dusty Baker's doghouse because he never played for the Cubs or Giants. This news shouldn't hurt fantasy teams.
