Newsbreakers
September 29, 2008
Pitching coach Chuck Hernandez and bullpen coach Jeff Jones will both be fired following today's finale against the White Sox, according to Mlive.com. Manager Jim Leyland said, "It's just one of those unfortunate things, but you know somebody's going to pay. Next year, it will be me."

Our View:The Tigers suffered through a disappointing 2008 campaign as they hold a 74-87 record in the cellar of the AL Central. The pitching staff holds a 4.88 ERA, which ranks 12th in the AL. Both coaches should find work with another club.
September 28, 2008
The AP reports that the Tigers plan to make Brandon Inge their everyday third baseman and to play Carlos Guillen in left field next season.

Our View:Guillen in left field? The former shortstop made two starts in left this season, 89 at third base and 24 at first. They may want to consider him more at DH. He's had 68 errors in 417 games spanning the last three seasons.
September 20, 2008
Tigers infielder Carlos Guillen will not play for the rest of the season, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:Guillen has had lower back problems since late August and has not appeared in a game since that time. He ends a relatively disappointing season with just 10 home runs and 54 RBI.
September 16, 2008
Carlos Guillen could be shut down for the remainder of the season unless his lower back starts to improve, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Guillen is suffering from lower back stiffness and has missed 18 games. He will need to begin running before he can begin playing, and he has not yet attempted to do that.
September 10, 2008
Tigers third baseman Carlos Guillen said his lower back felt better on Wednesday, but he is almost certain not to play on Friday, as some had speculated, according to Tigers.com.

Our View:Guillen is expected to return by the end of the season, but it is not yet clear when that might happen. He has had a decent season for fantasy owners, but not to the level of his previous years.
