The Mariners have reportedly decided on Oakland Athletics bench coach Don Wakamatsu as their new manager, according to the Sporting News.

Our View:Wakamatsu doesn't have any previous experience as a manager at the major league level.

Ichiro Suzuki's name has been floated out there as a potential option to manage Japan's team at the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View:Ichiro has already commented that the team needs to decide on a manager so that the team can begin to prepare for the tournament which begins in the first week of March, so why not just have him take over the role? We will have to wait and see if he becomes the countries player/manager, but it is an interesting thought.

Ichiro Suzuki intends to play in the World Baseball Classic for Japan during spring training, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View:Teammate Kenji Johjima is likely going to to want to join Suzuki and represent Japan in the WBC as well. Suzuki reached at least 200 hits for the eight straight season in 2008, and is now only 195 hits away from 2,000.
September 25, 2008
Ichiro Suzuki may have worn out his welcome in Seattle, according to a report in the Seattle Times. "I just can't believe the number of guys who really dislike him," said one clubhouse insider. "It got to a point early on when I thought they were going to get together and go after him."

Our View:Apparently teammates believe that Ichiro is a selfish player who is out for himself, but he certainly gets "his" year after year producing huge numbers. However, no one has ever said the man doesn't work extremely hard, and he always shows up, so this might be the old sour grapes more than anything else from a team that has gone down in flames this season.
September 25, 2008
Ichiro Suzuki will not sit out any of the team's final games this season, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View:Both he and Raul Ibanez will play in each of the team's remaining games, basically in an effort to pad their stats, which is just fine with fantasy owners.
