Alex Gonzalez, coming back from a fractured knee, has been running for a week now but but had to dial it back a little, according to MLB.com. "Hitting and fielding feels good -- the problem is the running," said Gonzalez. "I still feel something there. I'm running 70-75 percent, but that's good."

Our View:A rehab assignment has not been scheduled for Gonzalez yet. He says the decision when to start one has been left up to him.

Alex Gonzalez received bad news on Monday when an MRI revealed that he still has a compression fracture in his left knee, MLB.com reports. He has been out since early in spring training and won't be cleared to run for another two-to-four weeks.

Our View:On the flip side of the coin, this news bodes well for fantasy owners employing Jeff Keppinger. The backup, utility infielder should continue to start at shortstop while Gonzalez remains out.

Alex Gonzalez was able to take batting practice on Wednesday while wearing a brace on his injured left knee, this according to MLB.com. "I've come along pretty good," said Gonzalez. "I feel just a little bit of pain. It's almost gone. I'm doing a lot of stuff with my leg to get it stronger. Maybe next week I'll start jogging a little bit." Jeff Keppinger will continue to man the shortstop position until Gonzalez returns to action though there is no timetable set on that front as of this writing.

February 29, 2008
Alex Gonzalez has been diagnosed with a compression fracture in his left knee, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He'll be shut down and re-evaluated in three weeks. That means it's unlikely he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. It was originally believed he just had a bone bruise, but clearly a recent test changed the diagnosis.
February 26, 2008
Alex Gonzalez is expected to miss at least the next four days due to a bone bruise in his left knee, according to the Springfield News-Sun. An MRI came back negative. "We're going to sit him a couple of days," said manager Dusty Baker. "Wait until he sees Dr. Kremchek. It's similar to something that happened to him last year. Better to find out now than later. He is hurting a little bit, something that comes and goes." He failed to start a game after Sept. 12 last season due a bone bruise in the same area, so this clearly is something to follow closely.
