Newsbreakers
November 3, 2008
Ramon Hernandez is believed to be on the Orioles' trading block, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:Hernandez has a $8 million contract for 2009, with a $8.5 million option or $1 million buyout for 2010. He is a smart defensive catcher, but his declining offensive numbers leave a bit to be desired.
September 22, 2008
Ramon Hernandez had two hits in four trips to the plate on Monday night to boost his average to .258 for the Orioles.

Our View:Hernandez is hitting .289 over his last 50 games, and while his 15 home runs and 64 RBI aren't huge totals, he remains one of the better power options at the catchers spot with at least 15 home runs in four of the past six seasons.
September 9, 2008
Ramon Hernandez made his first career start at first base on Tuesday night. He was shifted after third baseman Melvin Mora was a late scratch due to a sore hamstring. Hernandez had made six career appearances at first base prior to the night.

Our View:Hernandez may not quite be ready to make the career-prolonging move to part-time first baseman, but he's getting there.
August 20, 2008
Baltimore catcher Ramon Hernandez did his part in the 11-6 win over Boston tonight, going 1-for-3 with his 13th homer of the season, totaling three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View:Hernandez has been fairly consistent this season and continues to provide quality offensive numbers at the position. However, after five homers in July with 14 RBIs, he has just one in August with 11 RBIs.
July 21, 2008
Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double, homer, two runs, and two RBI against the Jays on Monday. He is 6-for-14 with two homers and six RBI in four games since the All-Star break.

Our View:Hernandez was a disappointment over the first half of the year. It's too soon to get excited about only four games, but his mini-surge is nice to see.
