Newsbreakers
October 2, 2008
David Ortiz stretched his hitting streak in AL division series games to 12 with his ninth-inning RBI single.

Our View:Ortiz lives for clutch moments and the playoffs are full of them. Expect another big postseason from Big Papi.
September 30, 2008
David Ortiz and his mates will try to succeed in the playoffs, though it might be more difficult than normal because of the fact that Manny Ramirez plays with the Dodgers now, according to The Providence Journal. "No question, not having Manny behind me makes pitchers and managers think differently about pitching to me," said Ortiz. "But I think the good news is that we're getting done without him. Kevin Youkilis has earned respect."

Our View:Yu bet Youkilis stepped up as he hit .312-29-115 with a .958 OPS, a very Ramirez-like line. Youkilis obviously doesn't get the respect that Manny did, but that doesn't mean he has failed to produce when given the chance.
September 26, 2008
David Ortiz was penciled into tonight's lineup at first base, but he will now get the night off following a rain delay, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Sean Casey is likely to take his place at first. Ortiz would have been making his first start of the season at first base.
September 21, 2008
David Ortiz hit his 22nd home run of the year in the Red Sox 3-0 victory over the Blue Jays. It was the slugger's only hit in four at-bats.

Our View:Though the homer was Ortiz's fourth in his last six games, he has been a dud in September, as his average went from .274 September 2 to it's current .263.
September 17, 2008
David Ortiz did his part in the Red Sox 10-3 loss to the Rays on Wednesday night. Big Papi connected for two home runs which accounted for all three of Boston's RBI.

Our View:The lefty slugger now has 18 RBI in 16 games and seems determined to carry his team into the postseason. Expect similar numbers the rest of the way.
