The Cardinals have made an offer to retain second baseman Felipe Lopez, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Lopez hit .384 over two months with the Cardinals last season, and could be a favorable fantasy option for 2009 if he re-signs with St. Louis and roams second base full time.

The St. Louis Cardinals are said to be interested in bringing back Felipe Lopez to be their full-time second baseman next year, according to StLCardinals.com.

Our View:Lopez was fantastic for the Cardinals after being picked up from Washington. He hit .385 in 43 games and drove home 22 runs. He won't hit at that rate for a full season, but if he can perform to a level a few notches below that and steal a few bases, he will certainly be fantasy-worthy next season.
September 28, 2008
Felipe Lopez ended his impressive stint with the Cardinals by going 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's 11-4 victory over the Reds. He will be a free agent this offseason and has rejuvenated his career while with the Redbirds.

Our View:In 43 games with St. Louis, Lopez hit .385 with 22 RBI and 31 runs scored. Lopez, who historically has struck out at a very high rate, whiffed only 81 times in 476 at bats in 2008.
September 23, 2008
Felipe Lopez had three hits for the second straight game Tuesday. He drove in a run and scored twice in the Cards' win over Arizona.

Our View:Lopez is batting .366 in 38 games with St. Louis, as he makes a case to be brought back as a starter next season.
September 22, 2008
Felipe Lopez knocked three base hits on Monday night in five trips to the plate to lift his overall average to .268.

Our View:While that sounds rather unimpressive it should be noted that after hitting .234 in Washington, Lopez is hitting .354 in 130 AB since joining the Cardinals. After 3-straight 20-SB seasons Lopez has fallen to just seven this year, but for those who remained patient with him he has provided a nice boost in the batting average category.
