ESPN.com reports the Red Sox were ready to formally suspend Manny Ramirez before trading him to Los Angeles in July, even delivering a letter to him after his refusal to play in a game.

Our View:Manny's problems during his last days in Boston are well documented, but from rumored free agent offers it seems unlikely that his wallet will be impacted.
November 14, 2008
The Dodgers have pulled their offer for Manny Ramirez, according to MLB.com. The Dodgers will continue to negotiate with Manny and his agent, Scott Boras.

Our View:This isn't a huge deal because Ramirez was unlikely to sign the contract anyways. Boras has stated that they are looking for a five or six year deal, and certainly won't sign for under three.
November 14, 2008
There have been rumors that the Orioles were interested in trading for Manny Ramirez, but the Baltimore Sun states that every Oriole official they have talked to has denied the report of being in the bidding for the outfielder.

Our View:Ramirez would be a great addition to the Orioles' lineup, but the team has more pressing needs, such as pitching help.
November 14, 2008
GM Jim Bowden denies the report that the Nationals are targeting Manny Ramirez, according to FOX Sports. Bowden simply stated, "We are not pursuing Manny Ramirez."

Our View:The Nationals are still looking for a left-handed slugger, and they are pursuing free agents Mark Teixeira, Adam Dunn and Prince Fielder.
November 13, 2008
The Los Angeles Angels may be in pursuit of free agent slugger Manny Ramirez, according to the L.A. Times. "At the end of the day, you want people who can hit, and he may be one of top right-handed hitters ever," said Angels owner Artie Moreno.

Our View:Ramirez will be courted by a number of teams, and the Angels certainly have the cash to go after Ramirez. He and Vladimir Guerrero would be a potent right-handed duo.
November 12, 2008
The Dodgers' deal for Manny Ramirez has a third-year option that could raise the value of the contract to $60 million, according to the LA Times.

Our View:The option for 2011 in the initial offer is believed to be worth $22.5 million and can be bought out for $7.5 million. The future Hall of Famer would earn $15 million in 2009 and $22.5 million in 2010.
November 11, 2008
After seeing what Manny Ramirez did for the Dodgers last year, Nationals GM Jim Bowden is promising everyone his team will be players in the bidding for the outfielder, according to Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown.

Our View:We have also learned recently that the Marlins intend to make a play on Manny, but frankly, we believe neither team has much of a chance at him.
November 11, 2008
The Marlins could make a run at Manny Ramirez, according to the Palm Beach Post. Ramirez has received an offer from the Dodgers, but Manny's agent, Scott Boras, said the contract isn't long enough.

Our View:The Marlins' pursuit of Manny near the deadline was surprising, and going after him now makes even less sense given the team's financial constraints. It would be a huge shocker to see him land in South Beach.
November 7, 2008
The Dodgers' offer for Manny Ramirez may not be long enough to keep him, according to the LA Times. His agent (Scott Boras) made it clear Thursday that the contract the Dodgers offered Ramirez isn't long enough.

Our View:The Dodgers offered $45 million over two years, and Ramirez is reportedly seeking a six-year deal. The Dodgers' efforts to re-sign him looks to be a long drawn-out process.
November 5, 2008
Updating a previous report, the L.A. Times reports that the Dodgers offered Manny Ramirez a two or three year deal at $25 million per season. It is believed that agent Scott Boras is seeking a six-year deal.

Our View:Manny will land a massive deal somewhere and the Dodgers appear to be one of the front-runners for his services. Expect these negotiations to go on for a while as Boras will seek out the maximum amount of money out there.
November 5, 2008
MLB.com reports that Scott Boras met with Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti regarding free agent left fielder Manny Ramirez on Tuesday night at the General Managers Meetings and proclaimed on Wednesday that he was finished with the Dodgers for these meetings, which end on Thursday. "Our discussions were largely foundational and preliminary," the agent said.

Our View:Ramirez is about to get rich. Real rich. The Dodgers figure to be one of the front-runners for his services.
October 31, 2008
The Daily News reports that Hank Steinbrenner has recently said how much he admires New York City native Manny Ramirez. "Personally, I like Manny," said Steinbrenner, the Yankees' co-chairman. "He's one of the greatest hitters in the history of the game. He's a free spirit, for sure, but he knows how to win. We like some of the other guys, too. We just don't know yet."

Our View:Expect the Yankees to be a player in the Manny-sweepstakes along with the Dodgers.
October 30, 2008
ESPN is reporting that the Dodgers want to talk to Manny Ramirez's agent Scott Boras because it will be the number one priority to sign the outfielder.

Our View:The Dodgers are one of the few teams that can actually afford to pay what Man Ram is looking for.
October 30, 2008
The New York Yankees are expected to try and acquire free agent Manny Ramirez to be their right fielder next season, according to the New York Post.

Our View:The team certainly has the money, and if they are willing to commit the years Ramirez is asking for, he could be wearing pinstripes next year.
October 24, 2008
Manny Ramirez has been offered a two year, $60 million deal by the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the New York Post. The deal is being reported as more of a good faith offer towards fans, than a serious offer. Manny and his agent, Scott Boras, who are looking for a long-term deal with at least four years, will likely reject the two year contract.

Our View:Scott Boras has shown us one thing more than any in his career. He gets paid. He manipulated Manny into wanting a trade, and forced the Dodgers to decline the remaining option on Manny's old contract, because Boras would be unable to collect a commission on it. Boras won't accept the deal unless it ends up being the best offer, which is unlikely.
October 22, 2008
SI.com reports that the Dodgers are likely to make Manny Ramirez a lucrative offer as far as dollars go. However, they might not be willing to offer him as many years as he would like. The offer may be comparable to A-Rod's in terms of $27.5 million per year, but only two years.

Our View:The Dodgers would be wise to offer Manny a lucrative, short-term contract. He is likely to produce at similar levels to this season for the next couple of years. Anything after that, and they may risk a reduction in his productivity.
October 22, 2008
According to Fox Sports, the Blue Jays aren't likely to make a run at Manny Ramirez. "Manny is not priority No. 1. I can't even say he's priority No. 2," Ricciardi said Wednesday. "It would really be a long shot for us to bring him to Toronto. He's on our radar, but maybe not on our radar like some people will report."

Our View:Even though Toronto has shown it is open to spending big on free agents, it's hard to see how they could outbid either New York team or the Dodgers, who are very interested in bringing him back.
October 19, 2008
The Boston Globe suggests that the Giants could make a run at Manny Ramirez. He could be targeted as a draw to replace Barry Bonds. Pat Burrell is also mentioned as a possible option for the outfield.

Our View:This is purely speculation, but acquiring Ramirez would help move the Giants back into contention in a weak NL West division for 2009.
October 17, 2008
For those of you who think that Manny Ramirez will remain in Los Angeles make sure you read the report on TSN where Manny is quoted as saying the following. "I want to see who is the highest bidder."

Our View:With Scott Boras as his agent we would be shocked if Manny didn't merely go to whomever ponied up the most greenbacks regardless of anything else. Amazingly, for a player who has made over $140 million in his career, Ramirez seems more concerned over how large his bank account can become versus playing for a team that adores him and/or gives him a chance to win. Time will tell where he ends up but the folks in Los Angeles just got a whole lot more nervous.
October 16, 2008
The AP reports that Manny Ramirez is reportedly seeking at least a four-year contract worth somewhere between $25 to $30 million a season. With super agent Scott Boras representing him, it seems unlikely that Ramirez will waiver.

Our View:Barry Bonds got a five-year, $90 million dollar contract when he was 38, the same age as Manny. Expect the slugger to clear that mark easily in the offseason. Scott Boras is a Dodger season ticket holder.
October 15, 2008
Manny Ramirez finished the 2008 playoffs with a 2-for-3 effort that produced the Dodgers lone run (on a home run) in their 5-1 loss in Game 5 to the Phillies. Manny finished the playoff hitting .520-4-10 with 11 walks in just eight playoff games.

Our View:Will this be Manny's last game in a Dodgers uniform? One would think the club would do everything in its power to keep in the fold a guy who hit .396-17-53 in 53 regular season games with the club, but given that he is clearly in this for the money and one last huge contract, it's no sure thing that he will return to the NL West.
October 15, 2008
A report by Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated indicated that Manny Ramirez might be on the lookout for a 6-year deal worth roughly $25 million a year this off-season. "He pays for himself. You've got a free player with Manny," agent Scott Boras said. "He's an iconic player who's changed the face and fortunes of the franchise."

Our View:The early leaders in the Manny sweepstakes appear to be the Dodgers, the Yankees, the Mets and possibly the Blue Jays. Still, it remains to be seen if anyone would pony up $150 million for a player who is already 36 years old no matter how much crushing he has done this season.
October 13, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-2 and was walked three times, but it wasn't enough, as he and the Dodgers lost to the Phillies, 7-5, and now trail 3-1 in the NLCS.

Our View:You can't blame Manny for this one. He continues to make things look simple and nobody is a more difficult out in either lineup.
October 13, 2008
Manny Ramirez was one of seven individuals fined for their roles in the fracas between the Dodgers and the Phillies, according to the AP.

Our View:Also fined for the benches clearing were Hiroki Kuroda, Larry Bowa, and Mariano Duncan from the L.A. side. For Philly, the fined were J.C. Romero, Shane Victorino and Davey Lopes.
October 12, 2008
Manny Ramirez was 1-for-2 and drew two walks as the Dodgers beat the Phillies 7-2 in Game 3 of the NLCS on Sunday. He scored twice and also recorded his fifth RBI of the playoffs. During a benches clearing incident at the end of the third inning, Ramirez came in from left field to bark at the Phillies and had to be restrained by teammates, manager Joe Torre and an umpire, according to the AP. Ramirez, who entered with 18 hits in 53 at-bats, 10 homers and 20 RBIs against Moyer in his career, raised his postseason RBI total to 72 -- eight shy of Bernie Williams' record.

Our View:There is a lot of bite to Manny's bark as he continues to own all major league pitching during his historic run with the Dodgers. The left fielder certainly has more fireworks left in him for these playoffs, expecially if he gets to battle Boston in the World Series.
October 12, 2008
Manny Ramirez commented on his inpending free agency by saying, "Maybe I can get a six-year deal," according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:Dodgers' management agreed to discard his $20 million options for 2009 and 2010 upon his acquisition from Boston. He remains among the best hitters in the majors, but would be 42 at the end of a six-year deal, and could be hard-pressed to find a club willing to fulfill his wishes for a contract that long.
October 10, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Friday's 8-5 loss in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Our View:He is hitting .375 with four RBI in the series, but the Dodgers still trail 2-0. The series will move to Dodger Stadium for Game 3 on Sunday night.
October 3, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Thursday's convincing 10-3 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Game 2 of the NLDS. He hit a single and a homer, his second of the playoffs. Los Angeles leads the series 2-0 and will head home to try and close it out.

Our View:Acquiring Manny from the Red Sox is paying off big time for the Dodgers. He is aiming for his third World Series in five years.
October 1, 2008
Manny Ramirez hit a solo home run and scored two runs in Wednesday's 7-2 victory at Wrigley Field. He had two hits, including an infield single, and a walk in five plate appearances.

Our View:Manny continues to be the most productive hitter in baseball and should be a highlight fixture throughout this postseason.
September 29, 2008
Manny Ramirez commented on his time with the Red Sox, according to the LA Times. He said, "The first time I stepped foot in Boston, I said to myself, 'Whoa.' I told Pedro Martinez, 'Damn, man, I just want to get traded and get out of here; this place is not me.' I was unhappy for eight years in Boston but still put up great numbers. Baseball in Boston is like a Sunday football game, but played every day. We lose in L.A., I go to breakfast and people say, 'Well, you'll get them tomorrow.' In Boston, it's 'Hey, what's going on, the Yankees are coming.' It's just a different atmosphere. The fans in Boston got your back no matter what, but I'm talking about the people who write all this bull because it means so much to them. If your happiness depends on Boston winning or losing, you have to get a life."

Our View:Ramirez was a key member of Boston's two championships this decade, and will be counted on to carry the AL West champion Dodgers in the first round against the Cubs, starting October 1 at Wrigley Field.
September 27, 2008
Manny Ramirez will sit on Sunday according to the Los Angeles Times. It will be the first game he doesn't start since becoming a Dodger 52 games ago.

Our View:You'll want to get another outfielder in on Sunday other than the arguable offensive fantasy MVP of 2008.
September 26, 2008
Manny Ramirez, who has set his own playing schedule since coming out west, says he wants to play two of the final three games of the Dodgers series with the Giants, accordig to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View:Ramirez has yet to miss a start for the Dodgers and has been simply tremendous for the club, and overall his batting line is pretty staggering at .330-37-121-102 with a 1.030 OPS. Look for him to continue the role playing in San Francisco the next couple of days.
September 25, 2008
Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said he would like to re-sign outfielder Manny Ramirez, but will wait to hear the type of deal Ramirez is seeking before deciding whether or not to extend him an offer, according to the L.A. Daily News.

Our View:Ramirez will probably want no less than the $20 million he was making this season, and for a number of years. He has been absolutely outstanding in L.A., but you have to wonder if that will continue once he has the security of a long-term deal.
September 25, 2008
Manny Ramirez hit his 17th NL home run and knocked in his 52nd and 53rd RBI in Wednesday's 12-4 win over the Padres, his 50th with the Dodgers.

Our View:Ramirez has been the best player in fantasy since the trade went down. In L.A. he is hitting .398 with a OPS of 1.248.
September 21, 2008
Manny Ramirez had three walks on Sunday and went 0-for-2 at the plate to drop his average with the Dodgers to .399.

Our View:Doesn't Manny know if he doesn't hit .400 he wont get the $100 million deal he seeks this off-season? We jest of course, and even with the 0-for-2 effort today Manny is still hitting .399-16-49 in 48 games on the left coast.
September 21, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 3-for-4 with five RBI in Saturday's 10-7 win over the Giants. He hit two homers in the game, the first was a three-run shot off Brad Hennessey and the second was good for two runs against Geno Espineli.

Our View:Ramirez now has 36 homers and 117 RBI, with a .332 average. He has registered multiple hits in four of his last six games, and snapped an eight-game drought without a homer.
September 11, 2008
In yet another massive display of offensive fireworks, Manny Ramirez went 2-for-5 with four RBI. The best news was that both of the hits were home runs.

Our View:In 38 games in the blue and white, Manny is batting a robust .396 with a scintillating 14 home runs and 40 RBI. He won't get that $100 million deal he wants this off-season, but he is proving once again why is should be called one of the 10 best right handed hitters in the history of the game.
September 7, 2008
Manny Ramirez continues to bomb away with the Dodgers, as he went 2-for-3 with one run scored in Los Angeles' 5-3 win over Arizona.

Our View:Ramirez is still hitting above .400 for the season with the Dodgers, and has been an invaluable contributor to their race for the NL West crown.
September 6, 2008
Manny Ramirez ended Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks with five RBI on a home run and a double. He also struck out with the bases loaded.

Our View:Manny has now hit 11 home runs with LA in 33 games. He totaled 20 homers in 100 games with Boston this season. Continue to expect stellar hitting from one of the game's best.
September 1, 2008
The Washington Nationals are one team that may pursue left fielder Manny Ramirez when he becomes a free agent in the offseason, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:The Nationals desperately need both offense and a big-time star to get people to fill the stands. Despite having a brand new stadium, they are averaging just under 30,000 fans per game, 18th in the major leagues.
August 30, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Diamondbacks. He hit a single, double, and two homers.

Our View:Ramirez has recorded four hits in back-to-back games, and has 14 hits over his last five outings. He has three homers over his last three games as well.
August 28, 2008
Hitting third for the first time since joining the Dodgers, Manny Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a two run home run.

Our View:Joe Torre swapped Ramirez and Jeff Kent in the order (Kent went 0-for-3). Whether or not the move sticks is unclear, but no matter where he hits in the order there is no need to fret - Manny will hit.
August 24, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Dodgers 5-2 extra inning loss to the Phillies.

Our View:Ramirez started ablaze for the Dodgers, but he has been icy lately, and over his last six games is hitting just .208.
August 21, 2008
Manny Ramirez had a hit, a walk, a run scored and a stolen base for LA in Thursday's 3-1 win over Colorado.

Our View:Manny seems to have new life in LA. Not only is he hitting everything, but now he is swiping bags for the Dodgers.
August 17, 2008
The Dodgers enjoyed a surge of offense from outfielder Manny Ramirez once again this evening, going 2-for-4 with his 26th homer of the season to total three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View:Go figure, Manny's on fire and keeps driving in runs. Counting today, the guy has 21 RBIs on the month of August, touting six homers and an average well over .400 for the month.
August 16, 2008
Manny Ramirez has not only helped the offense of the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he's been a boon for the box office as well, according to the L.A. Times. The team has averaged an extra 5,000 fans per game since they acquired Ramirez from Boston.

Our View:Ramirez has been everything the Dodgers have hoped for and apparently more. No way they could have assumed such a big attendance increase. The only people upset over this deal are the fantasy owners in AL-only leagues who lost a top player.
August 13, 2008
Manny Ramirez continues to hit for Los Angeles, and he went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in his team's victory over Philadelphia.

Our View:Ramirez now has a .476 average since being traded to the Dodgers. He also has four home runs and 14 RBI. Sooner or later, the NL will figure out it is simply safer to walk him every single at-bat.
August 10, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-4, but his lone hit was a double that drove in two runners in the Dodgers 5-4 loss to San Francisco.

Our View:Ramirez continues to punish NL pitching, and he now has 11 RBI in nine games with the Dodgers.
August 9, 2008
Manny Ramirez was held hitless by the Giants on Friday night going 0-for-5, but the Dodgers still emerged victorious with a 6-2 victory over the their arch rival.

Our View:What a bum. Clearly, the Dodgers shouldn't have made the trade to acquire him as he is hitting just .464 with nine RBI in seven games out west.
August 7, 2008
Manny Ramirez keeps making the Dodgers faithful happy, as he hit another home run for L.A., his fourth, and collected two RBI to help the Dodgers take down St. Louis.

Our View:Despite his personal quirks, Manny keeps being Manny with the bat, and is off to a terrific start in Los Angeles while fantasy owners reap the rewards.
August 5, 2008
The Dodgers travel to St. Louis for an important series for both clubs. The Dodgers are trying to catch the Diamondbacks while the Cardinals are fighting the Brewers for second place in the NL Central. LA's newest addition, Manny Ramirez, loves hitting against the Cards. ManRam has hit .368 (21-for-57) against St Louis during his big league career.

Our View:Manny's big average includes four homers and 13 RBI in 17 games. He's 6-for-22 (.273) with two homers against Chris Carpenter, St. Louis' scheduled starter tonight.
August 4, 2008
Dodgers manager Joe Torre has a policy that does not permit long hair, but new arrival Manny Ramirez has not made plans to get it cut yet, according to the Boston Globe. The paper got this information after speaking with Manny's personal barber - L'Montro.

Our View:Despite the rule being wholly archaic, the Dodgers should have known that Ramirez plays by his own rules, and the dreadlocks could be around for awhile.
August 3, 2008
Manny Ramirez had four hits, including his 22nd home run of the season on Sunday, and he also knocked in three runs for his new club against the D'backs.

Our View:Ramirez has been stellar so far going 8-for-13 with five RBI in his first three games. When motivated the guy can still be a force, and with his impending free agency at the end of the year, we just might finally see what this future HOFamer has left in his bat on a daily basis.
August 3, 2008
The stories continue to revolve around the recent blockbuster trade sending outfielder Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Today, the Florida Marlins have passed along their side of the story in not completing a rumored deal to add the slugger, suggesting their request for an additional $2 million in cash from Boston, sought to cover the cost of the compensatory draft picks they will be receiving upon denying Ramirez a contract extension next year, were denied, according to the Miami Herald. The Marlins also added their refusal to trade prospect outfielder Mike Stanton to Boston was a factor in turning away.

Our View:The desire to keep prospects is understandable, but if $2 million is all that stood between ManRam and a Marlins' uniform, it should be hard for the fans in Florida to accept such justifications. In the world of professional sports, $2 million is a drop in the bucket, and letting such details stand in the way of a potential championship may disappoint the Marlins fans.
August 3, 2008
Yesterday we passed along a report that claimed outfielder Manny Ramirez had contacted the Red Sox just hours after the trade to the Dodgers was finalized, asking for a second chance to work things out in Boston. Today, agent Scott Boras is telling reporters those rumors are lies, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:According to a published report, Boras called Red Sox officials about an hour after the 4 p.m. deadline and said Ramirez was having second thoughts about being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The story suggested Ramirez promised to give the team an honest effort over the final two months of the season if the Sox backed out of the trade. While Boras declined to address specifics, he did acknowledge the Red Sox and Ramirez discussed an array of solutions before the three-way deal that brought Jason Bay to Boston. One source confirmed the possible outcomes included Ramirez remaining with the club if the Sox formally declined to exercise the player’s $ 20 million option for 2009 following this season, an alternative organization decided against largely because it deemed the player untrustworthy. According to Sox officials, the team ultimately decided to trade Ramirez because they could not count on him to give an honest effort during the final two months. No matter what Ramirez or Boras said in negotiations, Sox officials said, Ramirez’ credibility was so damaged and his behavior so unpredictable that they had little choice but to part ways with the player.
August 3, 2008
Manny Ramirez led the Dodgers to a 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday night in Los Angeles, as he went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. His other hit was a single.

Our View:Ramirez has 21 homers for the season, and notched his first with the Dodgers. He is also 4-for-8 so far over two games with his new club.
August 2, 2008
Manny Ramirez wanted to stay in Boston after all, according to the Boston Globe. After being informed of the trade, Ramirez had his agent, Scott Boras, call Sox GM Theo Epstein and tell him if the club would drop the option year on Ramirez's contract, he would be on his best behavior the rest of the season.

Our View:So after all Ramirez did about clamoring to be traded, and saying the Red Sox did not deserve a player like him, he doesn't want to leave? As the story noted, that just confirms that Ramirez's behavior wasn't just "Manny being Manny." He was Manny being a disruption on purpose.
August 2, 2008
Manny Ramirez had two hits in four AB in his first appearance for the Dodgers though he did ground into a double play in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Our View:How weird is it to see him in a Dodgers uniform? Try very. Manny will hit no matter where he is, and he started doing just that on this night with two base knocks.
August 1, 2008
Manny Ramirez will join the Dodgers wearing number 99 and sporting a haircut sans the dreadlocks, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View:Apparently he said he just wants to fit in, and since manager Joe Torre has a rule about hair length, Manny will cut his to be just like everyone else. Like short hair will make that happen.
July 31, 2008
Manny Ramirez's $20 million team options in 2009 and 2010 will be dropped as part of his trade to LA, according to SI's Jon Heyman.

Our View:We assumed this would be part of the deal. Manny will now be a free agent after the season, and he's reportedly looking for a $100 million deal.
July 31, 2008
The Dodgers have acquired Manny Ramirez from the Red Sox, according to SI's Jon Heyman.

Our View:Jason Bay is going to Boston as part of the deal. More details to follow.
July 31, 2008
It doesn't look like Manny Ramirez will be going to the Marlins, but the Dodgers are apparently now back in the mix, according to SI's Jon Heyman. SI has also learned that Manny has approved a trade to go to Florida, Philadelphia, Los Angeles or anywhere else.

Our View:The Dodgers have offered Andre Ethier, but Boston prefers Matt Kemp.
July 31, 2008
It's been about 20 minutes. Time for another Manny Ramirez update. ESPN's Jayson Stark is saying that yet another official with one of the three teams involved states that the deal is dead. The blame game is now being played, with Stark saying that the Pirates are blaming the Marlins for the deal falling apart and the Marlins blaming the Pirates. The Red Sox? Well, they're not too thrilled with either team.

Our View:Well, we are now leaning towards the side that says Manny is staying in Beantown. Obviously anything can happen over the next couple hours, though.
July 31, 2008
The rumors just keep on coming. Peter Gammons of ESPN has reported that the trade talks revolving around Manny Ramirez are at a standstill. However, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal has a source that says the talks are "taking off and Pittsburgh is getting what they're looking for."

Our View:Rosenthal has another source that is still not so sure a deal will get done. There's really no point in putting much stock into one report over the other at this point.
July 31, 2008
ESPN's Peter Gammons has been told by a source that the Manny Ramirez trade talks are close to dead. The Marlins have reportedly asked for additional cash along with Ramirez in the three-way deal. That would mean the Sox would essentially be giving up Manny, two prospects and $9 million for Jason Bay.

Our View:We can't blame the Sox for not wanting to do that deal. This story is changing by the minute, so it's certainly possible a trade could be completed eventually.
July 31, 2008
Manny Ramirez has approved a potential deal to the Marlins, according to SI's Jon Heyman. The Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates are still negotiating the details of a potential three-way deal.

Our View:Given Manny's comments over the last 24 hours, it's not surprising that he's given the trade the green light. We'll continue to update this situation as the window to complete a trade closes.
July 31, 2008
A source with knowledge of the Manny Ramirez three-way trade discussions told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that "if anyone thinks this is a slam dunk, that's not the case." In the proposed deal, the Marlins would acquire Ramirez for Jeremy Hermida and a prospect. The Sox would then flip Hermida and prospects to the Pirates for Jason Bay. John Grabow is also involved in the deal, and although it's been reported that he could go to either Boston or Florida, Rosenthal believes the lefty would land with the Marlins. Contrary to other reports, Marlins prospects Ryan Tucker and Mike Stanton are not involved in the deal.

Our View:If the three-way trade falls through, the Pirates would then try to deal Bay to Tampa.
July 31, 2008
ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the chances of a three-way deal involving Manny Ramirez going down are "50-50." Manny would end up with the Marlins, while Jason Bay would land in Boston and Jeremy Hermida and prospects in Pittsburgh. Reliever John Grabow would also go to Florida.

Our View:We'll continue to update this proposed deal up until the deadline.
July 30, 2008
The Manny Ramirez to Marlins deal has been completed according to an "American League source" as reported by the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:Of course, the source is unnamed and officials from both ball clubs still deny that anything has been worked out. Though the Marlins wouldn't be on the hook for his entire $20 million contract of Ramirez since the year is two thirds over, it is still worth noting that the entire Marlins team is making roughly $22 million. Stay tuned as we will continue to report the latest rumors surrounding this deal.
July 30, 2008
In what feels like update number seventeen in the Manny Ramirez to Florida Marlins deal, latest word from Peter Gammons of ESPN is that the deal has not been finalized.

Our View:This deal could go down to the wire tommorrow, but Gammons is reporting that the real sticking point is which young players will be involved in the deal, though Manny would still have to waive his no-trade clause once the deal was finally agreed to.
July 30, 2008
The Manny Ramirez to Florida trade has been completed pending the approval of Manny Ramirez who will need to waive his no trade clause, according to Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus.

Our View:According to the report, Manny will end up in Florida while the Pirates will receive Jeremy Hermida and three prospects, while Jason Bay and John Grabow will now become members of the Red Sox. Again the deal isn't official, but it's getting darn close.
July 30, 2008
Manny Ramirez might be at the center of a three way deal that includes the Red Sox, Marlins and Pirates, according to the Beaver County Times.

Our View:See if you can follow this. The Pirates would end up with Jeremy Hermida, the Red Sox would get Jason Bay and Manny would end up in Florida. Jack Wilson could also end up in Boston with Jed Lowrie moving to the Pirates. So many names, so little facts to go on.
July 30, 2008
Though nothing is official, details of a potential Manny Ramirez to Marlins trade are emerging, according to ESPN. The report speaks of the Marlins including Jeremy Hermida, Ryan Tucker and Mike Stanton, a minor leaguer with huge upside. There is also a version of the deal that replaces Josh Willingham for Hermida.

Our View:Peter Gammons was vociferous in his statements that the Red Sox must simply trade Ramirez because he no longer respects anyone in the Red Sox organization. At this point, it honestly seems that this deal could happen.
July 30, 2008
The Manny Ramirez trade rumors are heating up as Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Sox are "serious" about moving Manny. Olney also reported that the Marlins appear to be the front runner for Manny's services.

Our View:Olney said that Ramirez was clocked at 6.0 seconds the other night as he "attempted" to beat out a double play. Given that Bengie Molina, who appears to be running in slow motion like the Bionic Man, is faster than that, it is clear why the Sox think Manny is just plain dogging it. After years of discussing moving him, it seems like it might actually happen.
July 30, 2008
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports indicates that the Marlins are interested in dealing for Manny Ramirez.

Our View:The source stated that the deal could work if the Red Sox would pay nearly all of the approximately $7 million remaining on Ramirez's salary, and if the Marlins would include Josh Willingham or Jeremy Hermida, either of whom could replace Ramirez in left field, as well as a prospect. Ramirez would also have to waive his no-trade clause in exchange for the right to become a free agent at the end of the season, and would agree to decline salary arbitration when offered it by the Marlins in December.
July 29, 2008
Continued reports out of Boston now have the Philadelphia Phillies working diligently to get a trade in place to acquire outfielder Manny Ramirez , according to SI.com.

Our View:Earlier today SI reported the Dodgers are also interested in getting a swap done, but this more recent report has Philly as the leader in the clubhouse. SI reports it isn't yet known what players would be going back to Boston, but left fielder Pat Burrell is having a similar year statistically (.277/.400/.585 with 26 HRs and 61 RBIs in 103 games for Burrell; .304/.400/.538 with 20 HRs and 68 RBIs in 98 games for Ramirez) and could be a logical fit. He has a no-trade clause but has told the Phillies in the past that he'd be willing to waive it for the Red Sox and Yankees.
July 29, 2008
SI.com reports that the Red Sox and Dodgers continue to discuss a Manny Ramirez trade, but the deal is not close to being finalized. Other reports suggest the Dodgers would be willing to part with either Andre Eithier or Matt Kemp should the Red Sox send enough cash to cover the remaining amount left on Ramirez's hefty contract.

Our View:Don't count on his going down unless the Red Sox are foolish enough to add Andrum Jones' giant salary to the deal. Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, a Bostonian, is believed to love the idea of adding Ramirez to bolster the Dodgers' mediocre offense. However, McCourt has been telling Dodgers' people he doesn't want to add payroll during this trading season, and has been openly complaining about disappointing attendance and revenues.
July 29, 2008
The Mets have publicly denied interest in Manny Ramirez, but Dan Graziano of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that officials from both teams say the Mets have contacted the Red Sox about acquiring the pouting slugger. The Mets are reluctant to part with a top-flight prospect, though, which obviously hinders a potential deal.

Our View:It's very unlikely the Sox will trade Manny anywhere, but the Mets seem likely the most likely destination should it happen.
July 28, 2008
The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox reached out to the Dodgers in a potential Manny Ramirez deal, but the Dodgers were only interested if the Sox would take back Andruw Jones. Other reports mentioned the Sox were turned down immediately by the Mets.

Our View:It's unlikely Ramirez is going anywhere. He hit his 20th home run of the season tonight and is simply too valuable to part with prior to the stretch run.
July 28, 2008
The Red Sox are reportedly talking to the Diamondbacks, Mets, Phillies, and Dodgers, about Manny Ramirez, according to the Providence Journal. Ramirez is open to leaving Boston and said, "If the Red Sox think they can find a trade that is going to make the team better, and both sides are going to be happy, I’m going to agree."

Our View:Philadelphia is seen as a logical trading partner because of the presence of manager Charlie Manuel, who served as Ramirez’s hitting coach, and for a time, manager in Cleveland. The source suggests the possibility of Pat Burrell (who will also be free agent after this season) going to Boston in exchange for Ramirez. But the Dodgers do have the most young talent to offer, and could propose the best offer to Boston. The other two mentioned clubs are less likely to land Ramirez.
July 27, 2008
Amidst plenty of turmoil, Manny Ramirez went 3-for-5 with two RBI on Sunday against the Yankees. He scored twice in the game. Manny has discussed his willingness to be traded throughout the weekend.

Our View:We don't see Manny going anywhere. He is simply too valuable to the success of the Sox. However, owners would certainly like him to be happy. He is hitting .302 with 65 runs and 65 RBI this season in 96 games this season. When focused on hitting, Manny is among the best fantasy producers in the game.
July 27, 2008
In an ongoing story, Manny Ramirez has now told ESPN Deportes that he would welcome a trade. He was scratched last night in the Red Sox lost to the Yankees. "If the Red Sox are a better team without Manny Ramirez, they should trade me; I will not object," said Ramirez. "I don't have any preferences: I could choose a team that offers me the best conditions or one in the chase for the postseason. I don't care where I play, I can even play in Iraq if need be. My job is to play baseball."

Our View:We don't see him going anywhere, but the wheels are in motion to make this a legitimate story to follow. Manager Terry Francona and Red Sox officers spoke with Ramirez on Friday after the results to test of both his knees revealed no injuries. There were reports in the Boston media that the team was planning to take disciplinary action against Ramirez if he did not return to the lineup for the last two games of the series against the Yankees. It was also suggested during the weekend that the Red Sox management could evaluate the idea of trading Ramirez before Thursday's deadline. manny should make good drama to mix into the Red Sox-Yankees game Sunday night at 8:05 ET on ESPN.
July 26, 2008
Despite his absence last evening, the Boston Red Sox have posted today's lineup and outfielder Manny Ramirez is once again listed as a starter, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Fantasy owners will need to track this situation on a daily basis. Manny is a fantastic commodity, but his inability to provide a reliable effort as he battles with the Red Sox over his contract status appears to be growing, and as such it may would be wise to insure he's in the lineup each day.
July 26, 2008
Reports out of Boston indicate Manny Ramirez has sealed his fate and the team is more than anxious to move on without their embattled slugger, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Here's the story. Fans understand the Red Sox have struggled to determine if the coming decision to accept the option year on Manny's contract is the right move for the team. Meanwhile Manny and agent Scott Boras are more than happy to talk in the press about their desires to sign another long-term deal and their willingness to do so outside of Boston (and, possibly, seeking to entice a trade out of Boston now). Yesterday, in one of the biggest games of the season, Boston manager Terry Francona filled out a lineup card with Manny batting fourth, but that was followed by an announcement that Manny could not play. It appears Manny is claiming there were problems with his right knee. In the past, management and the manager would be more than happy to accept and support this excuse, but not this time. Instead, the manager - apparently confident there's nothing wrong with the slugger - put Manny's name in the lineup, then sat and waited for Manny to pull himself out of the lineup. Manny complied. Never concerned with wins or losses, Manny told Brad Mills he was unable to play and took himself out of the batting order for a game that means as much as any this season. With that, the Globe reports the team is ready to move on, and resulting rumors of a potential trade seem certain to follow.
July 25, 2008
Manny Ramirez has been scratched from tonight's lineup due to a sore knee, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:The Red Sox start an important series against the Yankees tonight and could have used Manny's bat, but they'll have to find a way to beat Joba Chamberlain without him. Adjust your fantasy lineups accordingly.
July 25, 2008
Manny Ramirez is penciled in to return to Boston's starting lineup against the rival Yankees Friday night, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He missed Wednesday's game with a sore knee, but is back in left field, and is safe to return to fantasy lineups.
July 23, 2008
Manny Ramirez has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup, according to the Boston Globe. Manager Terry Francona said, "He showed up this morning, I wasn't ready for that. He said his right knee hurts."

Our View:Jacoby Ellsbury will cover his spot in left field, and Sean Casey will serve as DH. Kevin Youkilis will bat cleanup in the order. We will keep you posted on Ramirez regarding his ailing knee.
July 18, 2008
The Red Sox and Angels battled late into the night with XXXX emerging victorious, 11-3. For the Sox, it was the great Manny Ramirez leading the effort (despite his troubles with team management over recent days). Manny went 2-for-3 at the plate with one walk, hitting his 19th homer of the season to total one RBI and two runs scored.

Our View:Ramirez is set to meet with agent Scott Boras to discuss his future this week. The hope is to find another long-term deal, believing Manny can play at a top level until he is 40-years of age. The Sox have an option year to consider but the general thought suggests they will move on and take the money. Games like this make you wonder if the investment is worth the cost.
July 18, 2008
Manny Ramirez has not been fined a six-figure amount, as had been reported, according to the Boston Herald. Instead it was a fine of $10,000 to $15,000 which will go to charity.

Our View:Ramirez has a $20 million option he wants picked up after the season, and this incident won't help his cause any. But he won't be suspended so keep him in your fantasy lineup.
July 18, 2008
Manny Ramirez has reportedly been fined a six-figure amount by the Red Sox for his June scuffle with traveling secretary Jack McCormick, according to the Boston Herald. WBZ sports director Bob Lobel commented, "The thing that most people are forgetting and haven't talked about is the strikeout in Yankee Stadium. The bat on the shoulder for the three pitches from Mariano Rivera. That was a big [expletive] to the Red Sox after the fine. I'm just telling you, there are things in the front office that are perceived ... I'm saying that there is a strong feeling that that three-pitch strikeout was the message to the Red Sox and it's a strong feeling that that's unacceptable."

Our View:It is appearing more likely that Ramirez will part ways with the Red Sox following this season, unless he and the club can work things out.
July 17, 2008
Red Sox Principal owner John W. Henry was offended by the comments made by Manny Ramirez suggesting that the team's front office and ownership hasn't been straightforward with him regarding his future, according to MLB.com. Henry said, "I find remarks that we have been anything other than completely straightforward to be personally offensive. Manny has been a crucial part of two World Series championships. I do not believe we would have won either without him. He has never played a more important role than he has thus far this year." Ramirez irked Henry by saying on Wednesday, "I want to know what's my situation. I want no more times where they tell you one thing and behind your back they do another thing. I think I've earned that respect, for a team to sit down with me and tell me this is what we want, this is what we want to do."

Our View:Manny wants to remain in Boston, but wants to sit down with team management after the season to see what his future is going to be.
July 16, 2008
Manny Ramirez wants to sit down with Red Sox ownership at the end of the season to find out what their intentions are for his future, according to the Boston Herald. The team has consecutive one-year, $20 million options on the slugger. "To be honest with you, I don't know, I want to stay in Boston, but I want to sit down after the season with ownership and see what my future is going to be in Boston," said Ramirez. "Let's see, but the ball is in my court. If they don't pick it up, I'm a free agent and I'll go play somewhere else. We'll see."

Our View:Manny turned 36 in May, but he's on pace for terrific numbers again. Maybe more important is the fact he's already played in 90 games.
July 12, 2008
Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez enjoyed a fun night at the park in support of the Red Sox's 12-1 win over Baltimore, going 2-for-3 with his 18th homer of the season to total one RBI and three runs scored on the night.

Our View:After hitting just .286 last month, Manny is looking to get back on track in July, hitting .313 coming into tonight. He now touts seven RBIs and six runs scored over his last five games.
July 9, 2008
Since his July 6 scratch, Manny Ramirez has come up huge for the Red Sox. Following his clutch hitting of the previous two nights, Ramirez went 3-for-5 on Wednesday with three RBI and two runs scored.

Our View:Manny has six RBI in his last three games. Consider the slump busted.
July 8, 2008
Manny Ramirez came up big again on Tuesday. He hit a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth to spark a rally that saw the Red Sox come out on top of a 6-5 decision over the Twins.

Our View:It was Ramirez's only hit of the night, but it appears he may have finally busted out of his slump.
July 7, 2008
Manny Ramirez hit the game winning single in Monday's 1-0 win over the Minnesota Twins. The eight inning base hit came off of Brian Bass, who was the losing pitcher in the contest.

Our View:Manny went 2-for-4 with one strikeout. Ramirez is hitting .281 on the season with 54 RBI and 16 home runs in 85 games.
July 6, 2008
Manny Ramirez got scratched from the start on Sunday, but merely for rest purposes. He made a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth but looked at three Mariano Rivera strikes before returning to the dugout.

Our View:Terry Francona was hoping the scratch would give Manny the time he needed to get his swing back. He has just one home run and five RBI since June 10 and he has not looked as aggressive in his at-bats over the past month.
July 5, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 0-for-1 on Saturday as he was hit by three Yankees pitches on the afternoon.

Our View:Manny is in an awful 9-for-48 slump (.188) that has lowered his average to .279. Hopefully today's outing will spark something in his bat, though he continues to appear to be completely off when it comes to his timing.
July 3, 2008
Manny Ramirez had a poor series against the Tampa Bay Rays, going 0-for-11 with five strikeouts in the three game series, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Ramirez has seen his average drop from .305 on June 11 to .279 today. He is in a bit of a funk right now, but Manny is Manny and capable of busting out of it at any time. Things haven't gotten bad enough yet that he should be moved out of fantasy lineups.
June 30, 2008
Manny Ramirez began June on fire hitting home runs in five of his first eight games. Since then the slugger has cooled. ManRam isn't as young as he once was, his attention to detail at the plate has regressed and his BB rate has declined. The Boston left fielder also doesn't offer anything in the way of stolen bases. He's still a starter in mixed formats but far from a top-tiered option any longer.

Our View:Manny's plate frustrations showed on Saturday, or so the latest reports suggest. Ramirez reportedly shoved the team's traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground on Saturday. When McCormick warned Ramirez that he might not be able to get the 16 tickets he requested, Ramirez responded by shouting, "Just do your job!" And then shoved the unsuspecting McCormick.
June 30, 2008
Manny Ramirez reportedly shoved the team's traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground on Saturday, according to the Providence Journal. The two got into an argument over Manny's ticket allotment. Ramirez had asked McCormick for 16 tickets for Saturday night's Red Sox-Astros game, which is a high number for day-of-game. When McCormick warned Ramirez that he might not be able to get that many tickets, Ramirez responded by shouting, "Just do your job!" Amd that is when he shoved McCormick.

Our View:Later, the two met behind closed doors and Ramirez apologized to McCormick, who accepted. No further disciplinary action is expected against Ramirez. It is over, and manager Terry Francona is pleased with how the incident was handled.
June 29, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Sunday. It was his first long ball since June 10.

Our View:Manny has been on a cold streak, due in part to a lingering hamstring injury. He has hit well the past two days, though, and we're not worried about his fantasy value.
June 28, 2008
Manny Ramirez is in playing left field for the second straight game on Saturday in Houston. The Boston slugger has been gimpy due to a right hamstring strain and was 0-for-4 in his return Friday night.

Our View:Ramirez is 0-for-3 in his career versus Astros' starter Brandon Backe.
June 18, 2008
Manny Ramirez experienced a twinge in his right hamstring on Tuesday night and is not in the lineup on Wednesday, the Boston Globe reports.

Our View:Ramirez and the Red Sox are hurt by the no-DH rule as they visit the Phillies. His hamstring issue isn't major, but the Red Sox can't afford to push it.
June 17, 2008
Manny Ramirez has a good track record against Jamie Moyer, tonight's opposing hurler for the Phillies, according to MLB.com. Over his career, Ramirez is hitting .340 against the veteran lefty, with 20 RBI.

Our View:Ramirez has 14 RBI over 44 at-bats in June, with a .341 average. Ramirez should enjoy another strong outing against Moyer.
June 16, 2008
Manny Ramirez missed his second straight start on Sunday due to nagging soreness in his right hamstring, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:It remains in question if he will be able to return to the lineup tonight against the Phillies. He cannot play as a DH as the game is in Philadelphia.
June 14, 2008
Manny Ramirez is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds, the Boston Globe reports. He left early on Friday due to a sore right hamstring. Coco Crisp, J.D. Drew, and Jacoby Ellsbury are starting across the outfield.

Our View:Given that the Sox can't use a DH in Cincinnati, this news is not surprising. Ramirez is day-to-day and could return on Sunday.
June 14, 2008
Manny Ramirez left Friday's game during the seventh inning due to a sore right hamstring, the Boston Globe notes. The ailment has been bothering him for a couple weeks, and Ramirez was unable to DH because the Red Sox were visiting the Reds.

Our View:The Red Sox have two more games in Cincinnati before traveling to Philadelphia on Monday-Wednesday. It sounds like Manny is in danger of missing some of those contests.
June 10, 2008
Manny Ramirez really seems to enjoy life as a DH. He went 2-for-4 with a solo homer on Tuesday and is now hitting .400-5-15-11 over 11 games in David Ortiz's usual spot.

Our View:Fantasy owners have been enjoying Manny's work all season, and the good times keep rolling. He has had some minor bumps and bruises lately, but those aren't slowing him down.
June 8, 2008
Manny Ramirez hasn't played left field since May because of a tender hamstring, but he hopes to be back in the outfield by next weekend, according to MLB.com. Manny won't be able to DH in the series against the Reds that weekend, so he'll have to play in left if he's going to play at all. "I don't know if you're going to see him out there [before that]," said manager Terry Francona. "And hopefully when we get on the road, he'll feel good enough, because, obviously, we're better with his bat."

Our View:Expect Manny to be in the lineup versus Cincy. He's been ripping the ball out of the DH spot lately.
June 7, 2008
Manny Ramirez hit another long ball on Saturday to tie Eddie Murray for 23rd on the all-time list with 504 home runs.

Our View:Manny also picked up three walks from the DH spot and didn't seem any worse for the wear with his injured knee and hamstring. Look for him to continue to mash out of the DH spot as his stick is white hot right now.
June 7, 2008
Manny Ramirez was suffering from a tight right knee and hamstring, but he returned to Boston's lineup on Saturday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He is batting cleanup, and fantasy owners should not be worried about him if he can play the entire game without any issues.
June 6, 2008
Manny Ramirez's right knee and hamstring are still tight, so he is not in tonight's starting lineup, according to The Providence Journal. Manager Terry Francona said Ramirez reported that his leg is sore, but was hopeful the slugger would be back in the lineup on Saturday. On another note, Manny said that his spat with teammate Kevin Youkilis is "in the past".

Our View:It was originally reported that Manny just had a strained hammy, but apparently the knee is acting up on him, as well. Fortunately it sounds like he'll be back in there shortly.
June 5, 2008
Manny Ramirez had a home run and five RBI before he was forced from the Red Sox game on Thursday night with a strained hamstring, according to the Providence Journal. Manny seemed to tweak the leg while batting. Eventually he drew a walk and was replaced by a pinch runner.

Our View:It certainly didn't seem like anything major, and with the team's DH spot open, we wouldn't be that surprised if Manny was back in the lineup in the next day or two. Maybe he injured himself when he got into a shoving match in the dugout with Kevin Youkilis.
June 2, 2008
Manny Ramirez seems to be enjoying his days in the 500 club. He sent a ball over the fence for the third straight game on Monday and is up to 502 career long balls. However, Ramirez also flied out with two men on and two outs in the ninth. The Red Sox lost 6-3.

Our View:There was never much doubt that Manny could still hit when healthy. Ramirez has now played in 56 of a possible 60 games. That was a bigger worry than his bat coming into this fantasy season. Hopefully he can continue to avoid the DL.
June 1, 2008
Manny Ramirez hit his 501st home run just a day after he joined the 500 home run club on Saturday. ManRam now has 11 home runs on the season and has raised his average to .294 with his three hit performance in Sunday's 9-4 victory over the scuffling Orioles.

Our View:Manny went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI on the day, and has to this point outperformed his average draft position. The knock on Manny has been his September lay-downs the last two years. Unless the Tampa Bay Rays can stay in the race there's a chance the Red Sox could have large lead in the AL East in the final month -- offering the veteran hitters in Boston plenty of pine time before the postseason schedule begins in October.
May 31, 2008
Manny Ramirez has joined the 500 home run club tonight, at the expense of the Orioles, according to the AP. Boston won the game 6-3.

Our View:Ramirez is the 24th player to reach 500 home runs, and that was his 10th of 2008.
May 28, 2008
In a somewhat concerning trend, it was once again outfielder Manny Ramirez serving as the lone voice of offense for the Boston Red Sox, falling to the Seattle Mariners in a heartbreaking 4-3 loss. Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk at the plate, hitting his ninth home run of the season with two men on and one out in the sixth, good for three RBIs.

Our View:That gives Manny six RBIs over the past three days.
May 25, 2008
Boston suffered the 6-3 loss to Oakland today, but the force that is outfielder Manny Ramirez continues to work as a major league power. Ramirez went 3-for-4 at the plate, all singles, good for two RBIs on the day.

Our View:Manny got to the middle of May as hot as ever, but he has since gone cold, going 12-for-57 since May 7.
May 13, 2008
Every player in the top half of the Boston batting order got on base this evening, but the end result was a disappointing 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Leading the way, as usual, was LF Manny Ramirez , going 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk, hitting his 12th double of the season to gather three total bases with one RBI and one run scored.

Our View:ManRam now carries 27 RBIs on the season but has struggled since we've entered the month of May, touting an uncharacteristic 12 strikeouts versus just six walks. Tonight he had his head in the zone and is working towards correcting those problems.
May 13, 2008
Manager Terry Francona will miss the two-game series against the Orioles following the death of his mother-in-law in Arizona, according to the Sports Network. Francona and his family flew to Tucson, and bench coach Brad Mills will manage the Red Sox while he is away.

Our View:The Red Sox are one half game ahead of the upstart Rays for first place in the AL East.
May 12, 2008
Manny Ramirez finally hit a home run, number 498 of his career. The two-run shot was his second home run in 20 games.

Our View:Ramirez owners will be glad to see him hit his 500th and put the distraction behind him.
May 12, 2008
Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez , who was held out of the starting lineup on Sunday due to a sore right hamstring, is starting in left field and hitting in his usual cleanup spot tonight against Twins starter Livan Hernandez.

Our View:Ramirez made a pinch hit cameo on Sunday. He came up with the tying run on second base (Coco Crisp) and two outs in a one run game. Manny proceeded to ground out to shortstop ending the 9-8 loss to the Twins.
May 11, 2008
Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez was held out of the starting lineup for Sunday's 9-8 loss against Minnesota due to a sore right hamstring. The Red Sox are batting .336 with 33 doubles, 16 home runs and 70 runs scored over their last 10 games. They have scored at least five runs in each of those games and have a record of 7-3 over that stretch.

Our View:But they have had trouble hitting with men in scoring position in this series. The Red Sox are a combined 9 for 40 (.225) with RISP in the three games. Getting ManRam healthy will help their cause.
May 6, 2008
Manny Ramirez went 3-for-5 on Tuesday night and swatted a solo homer, the 497th long ball of his career.

Our View:Manny hadn't homered since April 20, but the Tigers practically set it up on a tee for him when they brought in rookie Freddy Dolsi.
May 5, 2008
Manny Ramirez is back in left field for tonight's game against the Tigers. On Sunday, with David Ortiz scratched due to a sore knee, ManRam was the designated hitter.

Our View:Ortiz is back in Monday's lineup and Manny is back in left field.
May 5, 2008
Manny Ramirez has been stuck on 496 career homers since April 19, as he has not hit one over his last 47 at-bats, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Ramirez has six home runs so far this season, and should regain his power stroke soon enough, in his bid to reach 500. He is still hitting fine with a .317 average over 32 games, with 23 RBI. He also has one stolen base this season, and 20 runs scored.
April 27, 2008
Boston DH Manny Ramirez managed to steal a base today, his first stolen base not just this season but for the past three years. It is the lone highlight of Manny's day, going 0-for-2 at the plate with a walk.

Our View:Tampa Bay starter James Shields seems to have Manny's number, holding him to one hit in 12 at-bats.
April 23, 2008
Manny Ramirez has fared well against Jon Garland over his career, tonight's opposing hurler for the Angels, according to MLB.com. Ramirez is 11-for-21 (.523) with three homers and nine RBI against Garland.

Our View:Ramirez is hitting .342 over 79 at-bats with 20 RBI over 21 games so far. He will continue to play at a high level as long as he can stay healthy.

Manny Ramirez did in fact receive a day of rest on Monday. The Red Sox slugger was out of the lineup for the first time this season.

Our View:ManRam essentially received a day and half of vacation. Throw in the ejection he received on Sunday for arguing balls-and-strikes and it became a mini-vacation for the future Hall of Fame outfielder. Because Coco Crisp is still nursing a sore hamstring, Joe Thurston got the start in left.

Manny Ramirez will get the day off on Monday, the Boston Globe confirms. Joe Thurston will start in his place.

Our View:Fantasy owners should keep him in their lineups for this week, obviously.

Our View:He left fantasy owners with a nice 0-for-1 day, with one strikeout.

Manny Ramirez continued to destroy pitchers in the early going as he hit his sixth home run and knocked in his 19th and 20th runs of the season for the Sox.

Our View:Manny is hitting .342 with all those RBI, and it appears that all the hoopla surrounding his off-season conditioning program wasn't hyperbole.

Manny Ramirez hit his 494th home run Thursday night. With the home run, he passed Lou Gehrig and Fred McGriff for sole possession of 24th place on the All Time list.

Our View:Loving the spotlight, the left fielder added No. 495 an inning later, his fifth of the year.

Manny Ramirez was the hitting star on Saturday for the Red Sox as he had two hits, including his second home run of the season, on his way to three RBI.

Our View:Manny now has 11 RBI in 12 games in his quest to return to the 100-RBI level this season. Once David Ortiz starts hitting, watch out.

Ramirez holds a .328 lifetime average (19-for-58) with two home runs and 13 RBI against Rogers. He is only hitting .250 over 28 at-bats so far, and this would be a good day for him to break out.

Manny Ramirez missed a golden opportunity to pad the stat line today, going 0-for-4 with eight men left on base against the Oakland A's. It's early, but it's rare to see ManRam come up short like this. The RBI machine won't fail fantasy owners so poorly in the future.

Manny Ramirez, in preparation for future contract negotiations, has decided to hire super agent Scott Boras, according to a report on Sports Illustrated. Just what the Red Sox wanted to hear we're sure. Boras will no doubt compile data to prove that Ramirez is the second greatest hitter of all-time behind Alex Rodriguez. While the might be hyperbole, Manny's stated intention of staying with the Red Sox the rest of his career may have just taken a hit with this move.

Manny Ramirez will not press the Red Sox to offer him an extension or to pick up his $20 million option in 2009, but he would still love to finish his career in Boston according to a report on the AP. “It’s up to them to say, `OK, we’re going to take (the option). It’s not up to me to go into the office and demand a four-year deal, whatever,” he said. “No, I’m going come here to play the game, finish my year. If they want me to come back, I’ll come back.” Manny had his worst season in a decade last year with 20 HR and 88 RBI, but he still hit .296 with a .388 OBP to show he is still a top quality major league hitter. Given the rigorous off-season training program he has reportedly undertaken, chances appear good that the 35-year-old Ramirez could rebound to his 30 HR, 100 RBI ways in 2008.

Manny Ramirez has been training like a football player lifting heavy weights this off-season in hopes of rebounding from his worst season since 1994. He has also spent time working on his flexibility to avoid the nagging injuries that have become common place. Manny is just 10 HR shy of 500 for his career, and he is still just 35-years-old on opening day, so there is certainly a chance he could rebound this season. 2007 was the first time since 1998 that he failed to hit 30 HR with 100 RBI as he was limited to just 20 longballs and 88 RBI. Manny Ramirez said Saturday that he'd like to stay in Boston after this season, but he's preparing himself for the chance he'll end up somewhere else next season, according to MLB.com. His current deal expires after the 2008 campaign, but the Sox hold options for 2009 and 2010. He's spent the offseason training at Athletes Performance Institute and plans to be at camp on time. Manny wouldn't be the first player to have a career performance when he has a contract on the line. It's obviously great motivation.

Manny Ramirez said he plans to be at training camp on time this month, according to the Boston Herald. "I’ll be there on the 21st," he said. Ramirez has been working out at Athletes Performance Institute in Arizona since early December, so he should be in great shape as he enters an important couple of years. His current contract runs out after this season, but the Red Sox have options for 2009 and 2010, so clearly Manny has many reasons to perform well this season.
