Newsbreakers
October 26, 2008
On the same day that he was added to the playoff roster, Eric Hinske hit a pinch-hit home run, Tampa Bay's 25th home run of the season. That's a new MLB record, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Hinske hit 20 home runs in 381 regular season at-bats. This was his first at-bat of the postseason.
October 26, 2008
The St. Petersburg Times reports that Eric Hinske has been added to the Rays' playoff roster. He is replacing Cliff Floyd who has an injured right shoulder.

Our View:Hinske hit 20 home runs and 60 RBI this season in 381 at-bats. Tampa Bay does not lose much if anything with this move.
October 22, 2008
Eric Hinske will not be on the Rays World Series roster, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:This move isn't surprising, as the Rays offense was quite solid without him against the Red Sox in the ALCS. It also gives manager Joe Maddon more flexibility with the bullpen, which he used to his advantage in Game 7 against Boston. Maddon had five different pitchers on the mound during the eighth inning of Game 7, allowing starter Matt Garza to begin it, and finishing with reliever David Price. Price closed out the ninth as well.
October 9, 2008
MLB.com reports that outfielder Eric Hinske will not likely be on the ALCS roster.

Our View:Hinske is not dealing with an injury, but the team would rather carry an extra pitcher rather than Hinske. Hinske was a good hitter when needed, but with most of the Rays' offense in complete health, he will not be relied on in the series.
September 28, 2008
Eric Hinske was 2-for-4 with three RBI, a walk and a run on Sunday against the Tigers. He hit his 20th home run of the season in the fifth inning off of Zach Miner.

Our View:Hinske's 20 home runs in 377 at bats is one of the better rates in baseball for 2008. He has been a critical fill-in player for the Rays, but does not garner enough starts to really be a fantasy factor.
