The White Sox declined their option on Toby Hall, according to the Associated Press. Hall would've made $2.25 million and will receive a $150,000 buyout instead.

Our View:This was a rather easy decision, as Hall only hit .260 this season with two home runs and seven RBI in 41 games. They should find another backup catcher of equal or better talent for cheaper.
August 19, 2008
White Sox catcher Toby Hall had to ice down his right shoulder - the same one he separated in 2007 - after his attempt to give teammate Jermaine Dye the traditional shaving cream pie-to-the-face was blocked by the Chicago outfielder following the team's victory over Seattle on Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:Hall says his shoulder is not injured, just a bit sore after the incident. His pie-in-the-face career is likely over after this.
June 18, 2008
Toby Hall hit his first home run in two years and the Chicago White Sox scored an 8-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.

Our View:It was only the 18th hit of the season for the backup catcher and the two RBI raised his total to four in 57 at-bats.

Toby Hall has secured his role as A.J. Pierzynski's backup behind the plate, as fellow reserve catcher Paul Phillips was reassigned to the White Sox's minor league camp on Tuesday. Hall dealt with a dislocated shoulder last season and was brought along slowly this spring, but it appears he must be in good shape now.
March 1, 2008
The White Sox are taking things slowly with Toby Hall this spring after he battled a dislocated shoulder all of last season, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "They just want to be very cautious with me so we don't have any setbacks," Hall said. "I'm on a program, and it's coming along. I'm really doing almost everything that the rest of the team is doing, except playing in games. They want to make sure I'm ready to go by the final two weeks of the spring, so that's what we're shooting for." Hall opted against undergoing surgery to repair the joint, so he's hoping it will just heal with rehab. It's something to consider if he hits any bumps in the road once he does start playing in games.
