Newsbreakers
December 10, 2008
The Los Angeles Times reports that the New York Mets GM Omar Minaya knocked down rumors that his team had any interest in Juan Pierre, as was previously reported.

Our View:The Dodgers have too many outfielders and Juan Pierre is left on the bench too often to warrant the $28.5 million left on his contract. There's no doubt they would like to have him moved, but it will likely be very difficult.

The Mets have garnered in Dodgers' outfielder Juan Pierre, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View:The Dodgers would have to absorb a sizable amount of Pierre's salary for him to land with the Mets. He is owed $10 million in 2009, $10 million in 2010 and $8.5 million in 2011. The Dodgers don't want to move him until they see where they stand with Manny Ramirez. The Mets are looking for a left-handed hitter, but Pierre bats primarily from the right side, which questions how serious they may be in Pierre.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers may try to trade Juan Pierre in the offseason. Pierre just finished the second year of a five-year, $44 million deal sitting on the bench, first nudged out of center field by Andruw Jones, then out of the lineup by Ramirez.

Our View:His steep contract will make it very difficult to trade him. With an everyday job, though, Pierre can make a splash in fantasy leagues, namely because of his high stolen base rate.
October 16, 2008
Dodgers outfielder Juan Pierre has requested that the team trade him to a club where he will see more playing time, according to MLB.com. "He has no hard feelings toward anybody. But his preference would be a trade to a team with more playing time than he currently gets. He'll drop any no-trade clause he has to make that happen. Maybe there's a better fit," said Pierre's agent, Mark Pieper.

Our View:With three years and $28.5 million remaining on Pierre's contract, it may be difficult for the team to trade him without eating a significant part of that salary. Considering they are still paying Andruw Jones a hefty sum, they might not be willing to do that. And their return on a one-dimensional player with a big contract would be very small, no matter what.
September 16, 2008
Juan Pierre will get the start again on Tuesday night but Joe Torre has said that Matt Kemp will be his regular in centerfield and will start the next two games according to the Daily News.

Our View:Pierre hit his first home run of the season on Monday to go with two more singles. He remains a great weapon off the bench for the Dodgers but remains too much of a headache for fantasy owners to hold onto him.
