Mark Teixeira has finalized his eight-year, $180 million deal with the Yankees on Monday, according to the Associated Press. It will be announced at a press conference on Tuesday.

Our View:Teixeira will certainly add to the Yankees' lineup next year. He will give them a similar home run total with more RBI, a better average, and a gold glove at first base.
December 27, 2008
Murray Chass reports - on the appropriately named MurrayChass.com - that first baseman Mark Teixeira and his wife did not want to live in Boston, which was one reason he went to New York.

Our View:Nonetheless, Scott Boras did not let the Red Sox know this, and used their offer to help drive up Teixeira's price. We're certain Red Sox fans will greet him warmly over the next eight seasons.
December 25, 2008
Mark Teixeira turned down an offer from the Nationals that was $5 million more than the Yankees' offer, MASNsports.com reports.

Our View:If the report is true, Big Tex clearly preferred winning over a few extra millions. He is still filthy rich in New York.

The Yankees signing Mark Teixeira has caused many reactions, but the biggest may be that Mark Attanasio, the owner of the Brewers, thinks that baseball may need a salary cap, according to Bloomberg.com.

Our View:The Yankees have spent $423.5 million on three players in the last three weeks, which is more than the other four teams in the AL East spent on their entire rosters for the 2008 season. No one can blame the Yankees for taking advantage of the slow free agent market, but a salary cap would make the league much more competitive from top to bottom if one could be implemented.
December 23, 2008
Mark Teixeira has reached a deal with the Yankees, according to ESPN. The eight-year contract is worth more than $180 million.

Our View:This is going to really irk the rival Red Sox, who were said to be the top contenders to ink him. Teixeira held a .410 OBP in 2008, which was notably higher than A-Rod's. Teixeira was previously seeking a deal near $200 million and the Yankees joined the race when his price tag came down.
