December 10, 2008 The Cardinals inquired about Astros' closer Jose Valverde, but talks did not progress and ended earlier in the week, according to the Our View:Valverde nailed down 44 saves with a solid 1.18 WHIP with Houston in 2008, and team GM Ed Wade does not intend to trade him, although remaining open to proposals. As of now, the top free agent closer still available is Brian Fuentes, who the Cardinals talked to. |
