Lefty Casey Fossum has been recalled by the Tigers from Triple-A Toledo, according to the AP. As an adjoining move, the team designated Francisco Cruceta for assignment.

Our View:The 30-year old Fossum signed a minor league contract with Detroit on April 8, and was 3-0 with a 1.96 ERA in 11 games, while making four starts for the Mud Hens.

The Detroit Tigers continue to seek options for pitching insurance, signing veteran LHP Casey Fossum to a minor-league contract, according to MLB.com. Fossum will report to Toledo and join work with the Mud Hens as the team tracks his progress to see if he will be able to help at the major league level.

The Pirates signed Casey Fossum to a minor-league deal Thursday. He posted an unsightly 7.70 ERA in 40 games (10 starts) for Tampa last year. The former top prospect will try to win a job as a long man out of the bullpen.

The Devil Rays released Casey Fossum Friday, according to the Sports Network. Fossum, who posted a 7.70 ERA in 40 appearances for Tampa Bay, elected to become a free agent rather than pitch for Triple-A Durham.

The Devil Rays outrighted Casey Fossum to the minors on Tuesday. "Casey's been great, he's done everything we've asked him to do, he's a pro," Rays manager Joe Maddon told the Tampa Tribune. "You always knew you were going to get a great effort every time he went out there. It just wasn't working this year. We felt at this point we needed to get a look at other people, too, so that's what it comes down to." Fossum has 72 hours to accept an assignment to Durham or become a free agent.
