Shin-Soo Choo has been named the AL Player of the Month for September, according to the AP. Choo batted .400 (34-for-85) with five home runs and 24 RBI over 24 games in the month.

Our View:It marks the first monthly honor of his career. He racked up 98 hits this season, which is the highest total ever by a Korean-born player.
September 20, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Tigers at Progressive Field. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View:He is hot as he registered five hits over his last two games, and 10 RBI over his last five.
September 19, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo was 3-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored on Friday against the Tigers. The Tribe needed every bit of his contribution as they came back to win 6-5 in the ninth.

Our View:Choo has come out of nowhere to have an excellent second half. September has been his best month yet as he is hitting .436 in 17 games with 15 RBI, 12 runs and four home runs. He is 26 and figures to be in the fantasy discussion for the next few years.

Cleveland found support in the 9-7 win over Detroit from outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, going 3-for-5 with his seventh homer of the season, posting two RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View:Choo has improved through August, hitting .293 with three homers, 13 RBIs, and 18 runs scored.
August 10, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Jays. All three of his hits were doubles.

Our View:That was the second time in his last three games he recorded three hits. He is worth consideration in AL-only leagues while he is hot.
August 8, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo had three hits and two RBI on Friday as fellow outfielder Ben Francisco had two hits and two RBI.

Our View:Choo hasn't gone deep in 14 games, but this marks his third straight effort with a hit and an RBI. Choo just doesn't produce enough to warrant a look in mixed leagues, even as a fill-in.
July 23, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo must serve in the South Korean military for two years, and that obligation must be met by the 2010 season, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "If you win any kind of medal in the Olympics, you might only have to serve four weeks," said Choo.

Our View:Unfortunately for Choo, he is isn't eligible for the Games since he is on the Indians 25 man roster, and since he is out of options, the team cannot send him down to make him eligible. The clock is ticking for Choo.
July 19, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo had two doubles and a two-run homer in the Indians' win Saturday.

Our View:Choo needed this, as he hasn't been hitting a lick this month.
June 3, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo pinch-hit for Franklin Gutierrez Tuesday and finished the night with a two-RBI double and solo home run in his two at-bats. Choo has three hits in seven at-bats to go along with a .636 OBP since being recalled.

Our View:Gutierrez also had two hits on the night but is batting just .255 for the year. Choo could start seeing more time in right field if he continues to hit.
May 30, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo has been called up from Triple-A Buffalo, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He was brought in to fill Travis Hafner's spot on the roster, as he landed on the DL due to his right shoulder ailment.

Our View:Choo has been on a rehab assignment at Buffalo while recovering from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow. He won't see much action while fighting for playing time in a crowded Indians' outfield.
May 28, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo will rejoin the Indians either this weekend or early next week, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The outfielder is coming off Tommy John surgery to his left elbow.

Our View:The Indians will have a tough roster call to make once Choo is ready, although they could delay the issue by placing Travis Hafner on the DL. Anyway, Choo enters a crowded outfield and won't have much immediate value.
May 24, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo will be recalled from Triple-A Buffalo probably sometime next week if you listen to GM Mark Shapiro, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "He's a guy on the horizon," said Shapiro. "We'll take it series to series. Once he's here, he's here."

Our View:Choo, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery, is out of minor league options. When he is called back to the big league club, Franklin Gutierrez could be the odd man out in the Indians outfield.
May 23, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo is currently 7-for-21 over six games at Triple-A Buffalo. The outfielder is on a rehab assignment as he recovers from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow. Choo could return before his 20-day rehab assignment is up, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Our View:We were excited about Choo until Ben Francisco began knocking the ball around. The Indians could end up with a glut of outfielder once Choo is ready.
May 12, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo is ready to start his rehab assignment on Wednesday as he attempts to come back from Tommy John surgery on his elbow, according to MLB.com. "Everything sounds good right now," manager Eric Wedge said. "His bat speed is good, he's swinging the bat well, he's moving around well in the outfield, and his arm's working good. You don't want to get giddy with it, but he's on target."

Our View:Choo's rehab assignment can last for up to 20 days, and since he is out of minor league options, he would figure to join the team at some point in the next three weeks at which time the team will have to make a decision to open up a roster spot.
May 6, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo remains three-to-four weeks away from returning to the majors, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The outfielder could start a rehab assignment in seven-to-10 days. Choo is recovering from Tommy John surgery in his left elbow.

Our View:The Indians corner outfielders have been inconsistent thus far, and Choo could work his way into a platoon once he's ready. AL-only owners will want to tune back in when Choo gets close to returning.
March 30, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, as he recovers from "Tommy John" surgery on his left arm last September. Sports Network reported that Choo, 25, is a .260 hitter in 65 games over three seasons with the Mariners and Indians.
March 26, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo served as DH in a minor league game on Tuesday. It's his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, the Cleveland Plain Dealer notes. Choo is hoping to join the big league club in May.
March 15, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo has been taking batting practice the past four days, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "The goal is for me to DH in some games this spring," said Choo. "The elbow is a little sore on some days, but it's muscular pain. It's not that sharp pain." Choo is recovering from Tommy John surgery and hopes to be available for the Indians in May.
March 8, 2008
Cleveland agreed to terms with outfielder Shin-Soo Choo on Friday. Choo is hoping to return from Tommy John surgery in May.
February 22, 2008
In the short term, Shin-Soo Choo is hoping to return from Tommy John surgery in May. But over the long term, as a citizen of South Korea, he's required to serve 24-28 months in the military before he turns 30, according to MLB.com. "I'm not thinking about it right now," the 26-year-old said. "But it would be tough. For two years to not play baseball, then come back, it's really tough. Pitchers? Maybe. But hitters? It's tough." He could get out of the commitment by becoming a U.S. citizen -- though he hasn't given that serious consideration -- or by getting an exemption by helping South Korea win a medal in the 2010 Asian Games. It's something to keep in mind over the long haul, but first, he'll have to prove capable of overcoming major surgery and being a consistent major leaguer.
February 22, 2008
Shin-Soo Choo won't be recovered from September Tommy John surgery until May, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. David Dellucci and Jason Michaels will platoon again in left field this season, while Choo will join Ben Francisco as a reserve option, once he's healthy.
