Newsbreakers
January 7, 2009
Angel Berroa has signed a minor league deal with the Yankees, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View:The 30-year-old vet is expected to battle Cody Ransom for the utility infielder role. His fantasy value looks to be limited.
October 20, 2008
The Dodgers have declined a $5.5 million option on shortstop Angel Berroa, the AP confirms. He will be eligible for salary arbitration. Berroa earned $4.75 million in 2008.

Our View:Berroa was an emergency fill-in for the Dodgers this year after a back injury sidelined Rafael Furcal. It's not surprising that the club turned this option down, though.
September 14, 2008
Angel Berroa, he of the .262 career average, produced his third straight two hit effort on Sunday to boost his average to .243.

Our View:Berroa continues to see consistent playing time at shortstop for the Dodgers thanks to a solid glove and good work with the bat in his hands as he is hitting .290 since the start of August. He continues to be a viable NL-only play up the middle.
September 4, 2008
Angel Berroa and Blake DeWitt have teamed up in the middle of the infield in place of Nomar Garciaparra and Jeff Kent, and the result has been a 5-game winning streak for the Dodgers, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Berroa has hit well batting .389 in his last 18 AB, this on the heels of a 9-for-54 slump for Garciapparra. The team is saying that they are resting Nomar to get his body back healthy, but Berroa clearly is the better defender and should continue to see playing time if he continues to hit.
September 1, 2008
Angel Berroa will find himself in the starting lineup yet again at shortstop, this according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View:Berroa has eight hits in his last 22 AB entering action today which is no doubt better than Nomar Garciaparra who is three for his last 28. Still, is Berroa worth riding while he is hot? No as it's just as likely that he will go for 3-for-28 as that he will continue to hit well.
