Maicer Izturis underwent season-ending surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, the AP reports. He is expected to be ready for spring training in 2009.

Our View:Izturis is eligible for arbitration again this offseason, and it's possible he could end in trade rumors. The Angels may want to find major league spots for both Brandon Wood and Sean Rodriguez in 2009.

Maicer Izturis will undergo season-ending surgery on his left thumb next Tuesday, according to the AP. "It's a tough loss," manager Mike Scioscia said. "We feel terrible for Izzy. We have to move on, but he's an important part of what we’ve done."

Our View:Erick Aybar will be the man at short now, with Sean Rodriguez backing up.

Maicer Izturis has been placed on the 15-day DL due to his sprained left thumb, according to the OC Register. Kendry Morales has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill his spot on the roster.

Our View:Izturis originally sprained his thumb on a diving play at Yankee Stadium on August 1. He sat out six games then returned to play twice on the homestand, but he re-injured the thumb when he dove for a ball in the ninth inning against Seattle on Wednesday. Izturis did not make the trip to Cleveland with the team and was scheduled to be examined by hand and wrist specialist Dr. Steven Shin on Friday. Erick Aybar should fill in at shortstop while Izturis is out.

Maicer Izturis is likely headed to the DL due to his left thumb injury, according to the LA Times. Izturis sprained the thumb in an August 1 game at New York.

Our View:With infielder Sean Rodriguez already on the bench and able to back up shortstop Erick Aybar, the Angels are expected to promote first baseman Kendry Morales from triple-A Salt Lake to fill Izturis' roster spot.

Maicer Izturis reportedly left the Angels' clubhouse Wednesday night with his left thumb and wrist in a splint, according to the OC Register.

Our View:Izturis will be examined by team medical personnel on Thursday after he was reinjured trying to make a diving play on a ground ball single. Izturis sprained his left thumb on August 1 in New York and did not start in the next six games.
