Newsbreakers
December 29, 2008
Reliever Joe Beimel is still unsigned, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The Mets only have one lefty-reliever on their roster (Pedro Feliciano), but are looking for a bargain rather than pursue Beimel.
December 9, 2008
MLB.com reports that the Tigers have had discussions with the agent for lefty reliever Joe Beimel at the Winter Meetings. No deal is imminent and it appears that Detroit will try to settle their closer situation before moving on to Beimel and the setup market.

Our View:The southpaw has been on nearly everybody's radar, including the Diamondbacks, Reds, and Cardinals. The bullpen was a disaster for Detroit last season.
December 8, 2008
The East Valley Tribune reports that the Diamondbacks are among those interested in left-handed specialist Joe Beimel.

Our View:Beimel went 5-1 with a 2.02 ERA in 49 innings of work last season.
December 7, 2008
The Denver Post reports that while the Rockies’ continue to talk with the agent for Joe Beimel the discussions aren’t progressing toward a deal. In fact, other teams are starting to pull away in the pursuit of the left-hander entering this week’s winter meetings in Las Vegas.

Our View:Neimel had some good numbers last season and looks to cash in on it. A number of left-handed relievers have already been signed, but there are still a lot of teams looking for a specialist.
December 4, 2008
The Rockies are raising their pursuit of reliever Joe Beimel, according to the Denver Post.

Our View:The Rockies currently do not have a lefty slated for the 2009 bullpen, which is why they covet Beimel. The Rockies also like the fact that he only allowed one homer over the last two seasons, which would make him an asset while pitching at launching pad Coors Field.
