MLB.com reports that Mark Prior has started playing catch, a little over four months after his last shoulder surgery.

Our View:Prior's agent has said that he would like to return to the Padres. It's hard to see Prior getting more than a minor league contract with his injury history. Prior has not appeared in a major league game since pitching for the Cubs in 2006.

MLB.com reports that Mark Prior would be interested in returning to the Padres next season. He will file for free-agency after the World Series.

Our View:Prior didn't pitch last season for the Padres after signing with the team in December, a one-year deal with incentives that would have allowed him to make upwards of $4.5 million if healthy. Prior had surgery in June to fix a torn anterior capsule in his shoulder.

Mark Prior has said that he will file for free-agency after the World Series, according to ESPNews.

Our View:Prior's career as a Padre will be over before it even began. The often injured starter has not pitched in a game since 2006 and never made an appearance as a Padre.

San Diego RHP Mark Prior underwent surgery to repair damage in his right shoulder today, and doctors report the surgery went well, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View:While the operation will end his season, Prior's anterior capsule issues should be alleviated and now he looks towards the future.

Mark Prior will undergo season-ending right shoulder surgery this week, MLB.com reports. The anterior capsule of his joint needs to be repaired. Prior signed a one-year deal with the Padres in December.

Our View:We've lost count of how many operations Prior has had on his arm. He is still only 27, but we have to wonder if he'll ever be an effective major league pitcher again. It may be time to follow Kerry Wood's example and try out the bullpen.
