The Nationals have signed Freddie Bynum to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Our View:Bynum's ability to play shortstop could prove to be important if Cristian Guzman's past propensity to injury returns, but Bynum has no value until then.

The Orioles have purchased Freddie Bynum's contract from Triple-A Norfolk, according to the AP. He will fill the roster spot for Alex Cintron, who landed on the 15-day DL due to a strained left hamstring.

Our View:Bynum is back with the Orioles, but is not worth targeting as he was only hitting .192 over 99 at-bats, and will be fighting for playing time at shortstop with Brandon Fahey while Cintron is on the shelf.
June 22, 2008
The Orioles have designated infielder Freddie Bynum for assignment, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:Bynum has failed to meet expectations on offense and has found Alex Cintron getting the bulk of the work on the field. To fill the roster spot vacated by Bynum, the Orioles have recalled pitcher Ryan Bukvich from Triple-A Norfolk.

Freddie Bynum rode the pine on Wednesday in favor of Alex Cintron at shortstop, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:Bynum is struggling at the plate as he is currently in a 3-for-28 (.107) slump, but Manager Dave Trembley just wanted to get Cintron some action to keep him sharp. Bynum is not in jeopardy of losing his starting job at shortstop, and is still carrying his weight with his glove, as he only made one error over 20 games.
May 8, 2008
Freddie Bynum was recalled by the Orioles and he will start at shortstop for the foreseeable future over Luis Hernandez, according to MLB.com. "To be honest with you," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said, "there have been a lot of plays that could've been made and should've been made that weren't made. So we gotta try something different. That's it."

Our View:The Orioles have gotten abysmal offense from Hernandez and Brian Fahey at shortstop, so the hope is that Bynum can bring a spark with his speed. Jump all over him if he is on waivers in your AL Only league.
