The L.A. Times reports The Chicago Cubs have made trade inquiries about third baseman Chone Figgins, but it will be difficult for the Angels to figure out what they might even ask for in return until they determine whether they can retain free-agent first baseman Mark Teixeira.

Our View:If the Cubs could possibly pull the trigger on a Jake Peavy deal, they may be position to offer one of their starting pitchers. Figgins, a switch-hitting super utility player who has started at six different positions, would be a nice fit for the Cubs, who could also use a good leadoff hitter.
November 9, 2008
If the Angels acquire third baseman Garrett Atkins from the Rockies, Chone Figgins may be moved to left field to replace Garret Anderson.

Our View:Figgins has proved to be extremely versatile for the Angels in years past, and his speed may be a plus in the outfield for the Angels.
October 5, 2008
Chone Figgins will look to stir things up for the Angels in their attempt to extend their season with a victory against the Red Sox in Game 3 of the ALDS, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Mark Teixeira, Vladimir Guerrero and Torii Hunter are hitting .609 through two games while the rest of the offense is a sickly 6-for-50 (.120). If Figgins and the others in the lineup don't get going, it will be a long night against Josh Beckett and the Sox.
October 4, 2008
Chone Figgins was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Red Sox. His triple was the Halos first and only extra base hit of the season and he scored on a Mark Teixeira sac fly to tie the game in the eighth.

Our View:Remarkably, Chone had just one triple in 116 regular season game. The Angels will need more performances like this from their leadoff hitter if they want to get back into this series.
September 21, 2008
Chone Figgins is back in the Angels lineup, leading off and playing third base, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:Figgins had been out since early in the week with a bruised triceps. Fantasy owners can feel free to put him back in their lineup, and hopefully he'll resume thieving bases.
September 19, 2008
MLB.com reports that the results from Chone Figgins' MRI and CT scan revealed a deep contusion of the triceps tendon in his right elbow. "It's just a bruised triceps," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's feeling better. It's a relief for us. When he's ready, we'll put him back at third base."

Our View:The last bit Scioscia had to say was particularly interesting, because there had been speculation that Figgins might shift over to play second base because regular second baseman Howie Kendrick still is on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring. Consider Figgins day-to-day, but he may miss the entire weekend series with the Rangers.
September 14, 2008
Chone Figgins stole his 32nd base of the year on Sunday as he also produced two hits, scored a run and knocked one in for the Angels.

Our View:Figgins has endured a terribly frustrating season this year with his lowest stolen base mark since 2003 and his lowest runs scored total (68) since that same 2003 season. Toss in a .277 average and his effort has fallen well short of the draft day cost of this speedster.
September 12, 2008
Chone Figgins had been battling elbow soreness but could be cleared for tonight's game, according to the LA Times. He has been out of action since getting hit by a pitch Monday.

Our View:The Angels have already clinched a spot in the playoffs, so there is no need to rush him back and risk further aggravating the injury, but it appears that he will be back at some point during the weekend, if not tonight.
September 10, 2008
Chone Figgins was not in the Angels lineup on Wednesday as he was still experiencing soreness in his right elbow, according to the Orange County Register. “Figgy’s elbow is still to the point where he couldn’t throw and it affects his swing,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “We’re just going to let this heal up and give him a couple days.”

Our View:Figgins had x-rays which were negative, but as you just read he simply isn't able to do what is needed to be in the lineup right now. Given the cushion the Angels enjoy in the AL West, the club will clearly take its time with Figgins to make sure he is healthy for the post-season, so there is no reason to think he will be back before the weekend at the earliest.
September 9, 2008
Chone Figgins was unable to start on Tuesday night due to a sore right elbow. He was hit on Monday. "We’re going to give him a day see how this thing works itself out," manager Mike Scioscia tells the Orange County Register. Robb Quinlan started in his place.

Our View:Fantasy owners with daily lineup changes might want to plan on using another option on Wednesday, too.
September 6, 2008
Chone Figgins hit his first home run in over 400 at bats this season on Saturday. He also doubled and scored twice for the Angels.

Our View:Figgins had been in a slight slump and it appears he has found his slump-buster. The Angels would like for him to heat up as the playoffs approach.
September 2, 2008
Chone Figgins was on base three times with a hit and two walks, and wound up stealing three bases in the Angels 5-4 win over Detroit.

Our View:Seeing as how Figgins has no power and drives in few runners, fantasy owners are counting on him to steal bags, so Tuesday was a good night.
August 29, 2008
Chone Figgins had two hits and stole his 26th base of the season for the Angels (he was also caught for the 11th time).

Our View:With all the injuries to the team's infielders, the Angels desperately need a healthy and productive Figgins to come to the for. If he doesn't, they could be in some trouble on offense.
August 27, 2008
Third baseman Chone Figgins is not in the Angels’ lineup on Wednesday because an irritated big toe on his left foot, the result of a bad step during a run-down play in the seventh inning of a 5-1 victory over Oakland a day earlier, according to the Orange County Register.

Our View:Figgins had X-rays taken, which were normal. With Figgins out, Robb Quinlan will start at third base against the A’s.
August 25, 2008
Chone Figgins went 2-for-4 but was picked off of first base, the tenth time he has been caught stealing this season, in the Angels 2-1 loss to Oakland.

Our View:Figgins is still a solid fantasy option, but he needs to pick it up a little bit in the average department (.284), and it would be nice to see a bit more consistency in his all-around game as well.
August 20, 2008
The Angels needed a bit of late-inning magic to get it done, but tonight they pulled the 5-4 win over the Rays with an assist from the bat of third baseman Chone Figgins. Figgins went 2-for-4 at the dish with his 12th double of the season, totaling one RBI and one run scored.

Our View:Figgins has struggled on offense all season long, and this month has been no different. He has gathered just three stolen bases this month, is hitting just .232, and he has yet to hit a home run this season.
August 10, 2008
Chone Figgins singled off Mariano Rivera in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game for the Angels, 4-3 over the Yankees. He was 2-for-5 overall on the day.

Our View:Figgins is having a difficult August, but maybe he'll be sparked by today's heroics. He still provides fantasy owners with plenty of stolen bases and a solid OBP.
August 9, 2008
Angels leadoff man Chone Figgins was up and running today, supporting the 11-4 win over the Yankees in grand style. Figgins went 2-for-5 at the plate, stealing two bases on the day to total one RBI and one run scored.

Our View:Figgins now touts 24 stolen bases on the season, swiping one in each of his last four games in July and three over his last three this month.
August 5, 2008
Baltimore closer George Sherrill walked Chone Figgins with two outs in the ninth inning Monday to force in the winning run, as the Angels beat the Orioles 6-5.

Our View:Figgins should continue to be a force hitting atop the potent Angels lineup. Look for him to be a great source of runs, stolen bases, and average.
July 30, 2008
The Angels put a 9-2 whooping on the Red Sox tonight, ending the series in a three-game sweep of the defending World Series champ. Leadoff man Chone Figgins did his part, going 3-for-5 at the plate with one run scored and his 20th stolen base of the season.

Our View:That's three stolen bases over his last three games, though hitting .217 through July is disappointing.
July 27, 2008
Chone Figgins went 0-for-4 on Sunday. His batting average in July has sunk to .206 (16-for-77). Since June 22, when he was hitting .315, his batting average has dropped 47 points, to .268 and his on-base percentage has fallen to .371 from .422.

Our View:Figgins is as cold as he can get right now. The Angels may try to acquire another bat at the deadline and relegate Figgins to a utility role rather than an everyday starter. He has just one triple and 17 stolen bases this season.
July 18, 2008
Chone Figgins returned from Florida in time for Thursday's workout and will be activated off the bereavement list tonight, according to the LA Times.

Our View:Figgins' father, Charles, who suffered a major stroke in 2006, was hospitalized last week because of a seizure, but he was released Saturday and is doing better, according to Figgins. He should return to your lineups for the new fantasy week.
July 13, 2008
Chone Figgins has been put on the bereavement list and will not rejoin the team until Friday, according to the Los Angeles Times. His father suffered a stroke, and he went to Florida to attend to him.

Our View:Figgins will only miss a couple of games, but be sure to make the appropriate lineup changes to fill in for him while he is gone.
July 12, 2008
Chone Figgins' father has suffered a stroke and the Angels' star will head home Saturday to attend to his family, according to the OC Register.

Our View:It is uncertain, but Figgins could potentially be away from the team through the weekend. Adjust your lineups accordingly.
July 12, 2008
Chone Figgins went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and an RBI on Friday. His lone hit was his first triple of the season.

Our View:First?! It appears that turning 30 has slowed Figgins down quite a bit as he has taken a hit in the stolen base category as well. He is sitting on 16 stolen bases.
July 5, 2008
Chone Figgins had three hits on Saturday night breaking a stretch of 2-for-25 since June 25th.

Our View:Figgins is just trying to get healthy since it's tough enough to play this game when your at 100%. He is line to have a big second half if he can stay out of the doctors office.
June 27, 2008
Chone Figgins was scratched from Friday's lineup because of a cut on his knee that is showing signs of infection, according to the OC Register.

Our View:Figgins was prescribed antibiotics on Thursday, but skipper Mike Scioscia said it did not look good when he came to the ball park for the start of the three-game set against the Dodgers.
June 13, 2008
Chone Figgins, who missed 33 of the Angels' previous 34 games because of an injured right hamstring, went 1-for-2 with two walks in his first game back from his second stint on the disabled list.

Our View:Figgins lead off and played third base in his return to the starting lineup.
June 13, 2008
Chone Figgins, who was activated from the disabled list today, is in the starting lineup tonight when the Angels host the Atlanta Braves.

Our View:Figgins was 2-for-10 during his rehab assignment and should be safe to activate for Fantasy Week 12.
June 13, 2008
Chone Figgins has been activated from the DL, according to ESPN.com. Brandon Wood was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake as an adjoining move.

Our View:He will be placed back into the Angels' lineup, and should return to your roto-lineups as well. Hopefully he can put his hamstring issues behind him this time.
June 12, 2008
Chone Figgins is expected to be activated from the DL on Friday, according to the AP. Brandon Wood is set to be optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake to make room on the roster.

Our View:Hopefully, he can put his hamstring issues behind him this time.
June 11, 2008
Angels infielder Chone Figgins may return from the disabled list on Friday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The Angels currently have Figgins working on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake with the third game of that work being played tonight. If things go well and Figgins experiences no setbacks, the Angels intend to activate him on Friday. Figgins is on the disabled list for the second time this season as he tries to recover from a strained right hamstring. The third baseman initially suffered the injury May 3 while sliding into home against the Orioles. He was activated from the DL on May 21 in Toronto without going out on a rehab assignment, played one game and ultimately returned to the DL on May 30.
June 10, 2008
Chone Figgins will play seven innings in a Triple-A rehab game on Tuesday night, the Orange County Register notes. The third baseman is on his way back from a sore right hamstring and could be back on Friday.

Our View:It's a good start. We won't exhale until Figgins actually makes it through three games unharmed. Keep in mind that Chone already came back once from this injury.
June 9, 2008
Manager Mike Sciosca stated that Chone Figgins will play a minimum of three games during his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Salt Lake, according to the LA Times. Figgins said, "I'm ready to play. I'm tired of this, man. Eating hamburgers and hot dogs and watching games, it's killing me." He is recovering from right hamstring irritation.

Our View:Figgins will start with five innings at third base tonight and will work his way up to eight or nine innings Wednesday. He could return by the end of the week, barring a setback.
June 8, 2008
Chone Figgins on Saturday repeated his baserunning workout from Friday, going from first to third and first to home aggressively, according to the LA Times. Figgins, who is recovering from right hamstring irritation, will probably begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday.

Our View:You always worry about a guy who relies so much on his legs how he'll come back from a hamstring injury, though Figgy has said he'll go all out once he returns.
June 7, 2008
Chone Figgins (hamstring) will likely begin his minor league rehab assignment on Monday for Triple-A Salt Lake City, according to MLB.com. "Figgy worked out early today," Scioscia said. "He ran the bases, did different workouts. He feels good. If he comes out of it OK, he'll be ready for a rehab assignment on Monday. Izzy will go to Salt Lake."

Our View:The Angels offense has been greatly hindered by injuries to Figgins, Vlad Guerrero and Howie Kendrick limiting their overall effectiveness. It will be interesting to see if Figgins curtails his running once he is activated, hopefully by the end of next week.
June 6, 2008
Chone Figgins ran the bases for the second time Friday and "didn't feel anything," according to MLB.com. "There was no pain today," Figgins said. "It felt good. Tuesday when I ran [in Seattle] it felt a little sore -- sometimes when I ran." Manager Mike Scioscia said Figgins wasn't quite ready to play in rehab games but thinks that could happen "early next week -- and he'll probably start at [Class A] Rancho [Cucamonga], since it's closer." Figgins is coming back from a right hamstring injury.

Our View:The Halos haven't been missing Figgy lately with Maicer Izturis' play, but they'll certainly welcome the speedster back to the lineup.
June 4, 2008
Chone Figgins, who is battling right hamstring irritation, is not expected to begin his rehab assignment this weekend, according to the Orange County Register. Figgins said he ran the bases before Tuesday’s game and was a little sore in the ailing area of his hamstring. Coach Mike Sciosca said, "He’s probably not progressing enough to be in games this weekend but he’s definitely moving in the right direction."

Our View:Figgins wants to get the soreness out before he plays again. He doesn't want to resume playing, just to have to sit out some more due to soreness. Fantasy owners shall remain patient.
June 3, 2008
Chone Figgins, who is slowly recovering from his right hamstring ailment, ran on Monday for the first time in more than a week, and could start a minor league rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, according to the LA Times. Figgins said, "It's a little sore, but I want to see if that's from not doing anything for a while or from the injury."

Our View:Figgins is eligible to return from the DL on June 6. This was a good step for him, and hopefully he won't regress from here.
May 30, 2008
Chone Figgins has landed back on the 15-day DL due to irritation in his ailing right hamstring, according to the AP. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "He’s feeling much better, but he’s not ready to run yet. Hopefully during the weekend, we’ll get to the point where he can get out there and run, and that will be the first step toward getting him back into baseball activities." To fill his spot on the roster, the team activated Howie Kendrick from the DL.

Our View:The move is retroactive to May 22, meaning he will be eligible to return June 6.
May 29, 2008
Chone Figgins missed his seventh straight game on Wednesday due to his ailing hamstring, and manager Mike Scioscia stated the Angels will make a decision by Friday whether to place him back on the DL, according to CBSsports.com.

Our View:If he does go back on the shelf, the move would be retroactive to May 22, meaning he would be eligible to return June 6. We will keep you posted on his status.
May 27, 2008
Chone Figgins may go back on the DL, according to the LA Times. Figgins played one game before aggravating his right hamstring injury, and he has not played in the five games since. That missed time would count if the Angels put him back on the DL, so they could activate him as early as June 6. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "We're going to have to make a decision in the next couple days. He's making progress, but we're into day five now, so he'd have to make some significant progress in the next couple days."

Our View:Figgins was more concerned about getting healthy for good than about a possible return to the DL. He noted that the artificial turf in Toronto in the one game he played irritated the hamstring, and that he did not know when he might return. Figgins has never had a hamstring injury before now.
May 26, 2008
Chone Figgins is expected to miss several more games due to soreness in his right leg, according to the LA Times. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "He's getting better, but he's still not where he needs to be." Figgins added, "Tests in Toronto and Chicago showed that the strength is still good, it's just tender."

Our View:He missed his fourth straight game on Sunday and did not play over the weekend, as was previously expected.
May 24, 2008
Chone Figgins missed his third straight game Saturday because of a strained right hamstring, according to the AP.

Our View:Figgins was expected to play at some point this weekend. Well, there's only one day left, so we'll see if he's back in there Sunday.
May 23, 2008
Chone Figgins was out of the lineup Friday for the second straight day after his right hamstring flared up on him in the series against the Blue Jays, according to the AP. He is expected to play at some point this weekend.

Our View:Robb Quinlan started at the hot corner in place of Figgy and went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
May 23, 2008
Chone Figgins blamed the Rogers Centre turf on his right leg soreness. The third baseman was unable to play on Thursday, although it was a scheduled day off. "That turf did a little deal on me," Figgins tells the Los Angeles Times. "It doesn't give. At home, when I was running, it wasn't sore at all." He recently completed a DL stint due to a sore right hamstring.

Our View:Figgins isn't headed back to the DL or even necessarily slated to sit on Friday, but fantasy owners may need to wonder every time the Angels head to a stadium with turf.
May 22, 2008
Angels third baseman Chone Figgins is out of the starting lineup tonight at LA faces the Toronto Blue Jays, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Figgins is feeling soreness in his right leg. The team believes he has not re-injured the hamstring injury and expects Figgins back in the lineup on Friday.
May 21, 2008
The Angels activated Chone Figgins from the DL today to replace the injured Erick Aybar on the roster.

Our View:Robb Quinlan and Matt Brown, who played third most of the time while Figgins was out, will go back to bench duty.
May 21, 2008
Chone Figgins could be on the Chicago White Sox radar, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. A source close to the situation said that Chicago GM Kenny Williams started sending out feelers more than two weeks ago to teams that had leadoff hitters also capable of playing second base, and speculation is that his interest in Figgins has grown. Williams said, "Figgins? That's an interesting name. I'm talking about the guys that will ultimately be available, and I don't know if they will be any better than what we already got. Again, the key phrase being that they will ultimately be available. Not that I can't sit here and play the fantasy game. Hell, I can play that game and come up with a bunch of people. Reality, that's the game I have to deal in."

Our View:Further evidence that Figgins could be expendable is that while the Sox were in Los Angeles playing the Angels last week, there was whispers that the Angels would make a hard push for free agent-to-be Joe Crede when the season ends. Figgins would add more speed to Chicago's lineup as he had 11 stolen bases over 32 games before getting hurt.
May 20, 2008
Chone Figgins worked out with his teammates before Tuesday's game against Toronto and is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.

Our View:Figgins has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring strain.
May 19, 2008
The Angels are expected to activate Chone Figgins later this week from the disabled list. His hamstring is reportedly close to 100 percent.

Our View:Figgins probably won't rejoin the team until next weekend, and when he does don't expect to see him off and running at his normal pace. Keep him out of your Week 8 lineup and be prepared to insert him next Monday, for Week 9.
May 17, 2008
Chone Figgins reportedly ran the bases at a good pace on Friday, according to the LA Daily News. He continued to test his strained right hamstring, and Manager Mike Sciosca commented, "Figgy ran the bases at a good pace and felt no indications of where he was. We'll see how long it's going to be when he's going to be able to run at 100 percent and see how he responds. Two weeks is not bad for somebody to be out where you can put him right back in. When you start getting close to three weeks, then there will probably be some things that we need to do."

Our View:Figgins is on the DL retroactive to May 4, and would be eligible to return to the lineup when the Angels begin a three-game set in Toronto on Tuesday. It remains unclear if he'll be ready to play by then or if he'll need to go on a rehab assignment before returning to the Angels.
May 11, 2008
The Angels placed Chone Figgins on the 15-day DL on Saturday. He hasn't played since May 3 due to a strained right hamstring. "He's making progress. But not enough to where you're going to project him to play any time next week," manager Mike Scioscia explains to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View:The Angels will continue to patch together their infield while Figgins, Maicer Izturis, and Howie Kendrick are out. It's a golden opportunity for Brandon Wood and Sean Rodriguez. We'll update Figgins' status when more is known, but fantasy owners should obviously bench him for the week ahead.
May 8, 2008
Chone Figgins is healing slower than expected, according to the LA Times. He still hasn't been able to run since straining his right hamstring while sliding at the plate against Baltimore. Figgins has resumed some baseball activities, but with the Angels off today, he won't run until Friday at the earliest. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "We'll get a little better idea after the off day where he is. He's got to get in some physical activity first before we can evaluate him. And he's not quite there yet."

Our View:Figgins was off to a strong start as he registered eight RBI, 11 stolen bases, and 18 runs over 34 games before going down. He maintained a .302 average as well. While it is disappointing that he hasn't returned yet, he will be worth the wait when he does. We will keep you posted on his status.
May 6, 2008
Chone Figgins, who is nursing a mild hamstring strain, is expected to start running again today, according to the LA Times.

Our View:Mike Scioscia said Figgins might be available in an emergency situation Wednesday, but the manager would prefer to wait until after the off day on Thursday, putting Figgins back on the field Friday against the Rays.
May 5, 2008
Chone Figgins avoided the 15-day DL Sunday, an MRI test on the infielder's right hamstring showing a mild strain, according to the LA Times.

Our View:Figgins said his hamstring felt "a lot better" on Sunday than it did Saturday. Figgins took Sunday off and probably won't test the hamstring until today or Tuesday in Kansas City. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "Within 48 hours, we should have a better idea of what direction this is going." This is good news he is not going on the DL, and fantasy owners shouldn't mind if he sits out another day or two.
May 4, 2008
Chone Figgins will have his injured hamstring re-evaluated on Monday but said he was feeling a lot better, according to the OC Register. He said, "It’s not pulled. It’s just a slight strain."

Our View:The team recalled Sean Rodriguez from Triple-A Salt Lake to provide depth in the infield, as Maicer Izturis and Howie Kendrick are also currently out of action. We will keep you posted on Figgins' status, but his injury doesn't appear to be serious.
May 4, 2008
Chone Figgins left Saturday's game in the eighth inning because of an apparent right hamstring injury, according to the OC Register. Figgins seemed to limp as he walked away from the plate and was replaced defensively after that inning. Figgins left the stadium immediately after the game to undergo an MRI exam. Manager Mike Sciosca commented, "With hamstrings, you're always concerned. We don't know what degree this is. We'll wait and see. Obviously we'll be cautious."

Our View:The Angels already have infielders Howie Kendrick and Maicer Izturis on the DL, and the team is likely to reach down to Triple-A Salt Lake for either Sean Rodriguez or Matt Brown. Both have already spent time with the Angels this season. We will keep you posted on Figgins' MRI results and his playing status.
April 13, 2008
Chone Figgins went 2-for-5 with one run, one RBI, and two stolen bases on Sunday. He has already attempted nine steals through 13 games.

Our View:Figgins is hitting .404 and has an OBP of over .530, so he has created ample opportunity for a green light. He won't be able to keep up this pace, of course, but he's looking like a threat for over 50 steals.
April 12, 2008
Chone Figgins went 1-for-2 with three walks on Friday night and he also stole his fourth base of the year (though he was also caught for the third time). Figgins has and OBP well over .500 at the moment as he continues to find a way to get on base in front of the big boppers.
March 31, 2008
Chone Figgins was 2-for-4 with a double in the Angels Monday night loss to the Twins. Figgins added an RBI with a two out single in the fifth inning.
March 25, 2008
Chone Figgins was held out of Tuesday's exhibition game due to some slight cramping of the muscles between the fingers of his left hand, according to the LA Times. "[Figgins] could have played today, but we'll give him a day, and he'll be ready to go Thursday," said manager Mike Scioscia. It appears it's a minor ailment that shouldn't affect his draft or auction value.
February 16, 2008
Chone Figgins arrived at camp on Friday, and he is still working through a bit of rehab with his left wrist. He had surgery to remove the hook of the hamate bone in late October. "It's full go," Figgins tells MLB.com. "I didn't get my normal work in, but I've been hitting for about a month. I still get some soreness, but nothing like before."
