December 22, 2008
Updating an earlier report, David Wright has been told directly by U.S. manager Davey Johnson that he will be the starting third baseman for the U.S. in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, according to the New York Post.

Our View:The other third baseman on the team, Chipper Jones, will primarily serve as the starting DH but could occasionally play third base as well.
December 22, 2008
The New York Post reports that David Wright will accept an invitation to play in the World Baseball Classic.

Our View:He will likely start at third base ahead of Chipper Jones. Wright hit .302 last year with 33 home runs and 124 RBIs. Alex Rodriguez elected to play for the Dominican Republic after playing with U.S. team last time. Some feel that players who take part in the WBC suffer in the regular season, as a result of altering their spring training routine.

The Mets aren't for sale and owner Jeff Wilbon said that the day-to-day operations of running the club will not be affected by his recent financial losses, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The Mets have been active in improving their club this year, acquiring JJ Putz through a trade and signing K-Rod.
November 13, 2008
David Wright won his second straight Silver Slugger award on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Wright is one of the favorites for the NL MVP, with his second straight year of a .300+ average, 30+ home runs, and 100+ RBI.
October 2, 2008
Mets manager Jerry Manuel has been offered a two-year contract to return to the team, but negotiations are still ongoing, according to New York Newsday.

Our View:Manuel led the team out of the Willie Randolph ear smoothly, but he still failed to lead the team to the playoffs, losing on the final day of the season, which let Milwaukee claim the final playoff spot.
