Josh Bard's contract details with the Red Sox have been disclosed, according to the Boston Globe. The deal is worth $1.7 million and there is another $800,000 or so in incentives, but most of the contract is non-guaranteed.

Our View:The Red Sox could still bring back Jason Varitek, but both catchers hit best from the right side of the plate, meaning they are not an ideal fit together.
December 28, 2008
Catcher Josh Bard has been signed by the Red Sox, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:Bard hit .202 in 57 games for the Padres last season. Look for him to takeover Kevin Cash's former job as the personal catcher for knuckleballer Tim Wakefield. The Red Sox would still like to add Jason Varitek, or a catcher capable of replacing him.
December 11, 2008
The Red Sox are believed to be interested in Josh Bard, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:Bard will offer little offensively to the heavyweight Red Sox, and is likely a backup plan in case they cannot land other higher ranked targets, such as any of the Rangers' catchers.
October 8, 2008
Reds' GM Walt Jocketty has made a call to the agent of Josh Bard, and has a mild interest in signing him, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Paul Bako won't be back and Bard would be added to split time with Ryan Hanigan.
October 6, 2008
Josh Bard cleared waivers on Monday and decided to become a free agent, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Bard missed about two months due to an ankle injury and later in the year also missed time due to a strained right triceps. At the plate he was atrocious hitting just .202 in 178 AB, this after hitting .305 in 2006-07. He should rebound somewhat with health, but playing time could be hard to come by.
September 16, 2008
Josh Bard is likely done for the year after aggravating his right triceps injury, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Bard has been limited to just 57 games this year due to various injuries.
August 22, 2008
Catcher Josh Bard returned to the Padres after the team activated him from the DL, according to The Sports Network. To make room for Bard, Josh Carlin was sent to the minors.

Our View:Bard is hitting .209 and is of no importance in fantasy leagues.
August 22, 2008
Josh Bard is expected to be activated from the DL prior to Friday's game against the Giants, according to Padres.com. He has battled a high ankle sprain and a strained right triceps this season.

Our View:Bard will be a welcome addition back to the Padres, but not to fantasy lineups, as he only batted .209 (with one homer and 12 RBI) over 148 at-bats this season.
July 30, 2008
The Padres have reportedly rejected an offer from the Marlins involving catcher Josh Bard, according to the North County Times.

Our View:Bard is only hitting .217 with one homer over 138 at-bats, but the club felt the Marlins' proposal to unload him wasn't good enough. The Marlins seek a catcher as insurance and depth for Matt Treanor, who is opting to play through a hip injury rather than undergo surgery.
July 24, 2008
Josh Bard has been activated from the DL following his battle with a high ankle sprain, according to the AP.

Our View:Bard will be welcomed back to the Padres, but not to fantasy squads as he only hit .200 prior to landing on the shelf.
July 22, 2008
Manager Bud Black mentioned that Josh Bard is likely to come off the DL this week following his battle with a high ankle sprain, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:He would be a welcome addition back to the Padres, but not for fantasy teams, as he held a .200 average with no homers and seven RBI over 130 at-bats prior to going down.
July 14, 2008
Josh Bard played for Single-A Lake Elsinore against Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday as he he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain, according to the North County Times. The plan is for Bard to start as Elsinore's DH on Monday before taking Tuesday off. Bard is also scheduled to catch five innings Wednesday.

Our View:Manager Bud Black noted that it wouldn't surprise him if Bard returned to the Padres on July 24 (against the Pirates).
July 12, 2008
Josh Bard is set to begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Elsinore next week as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:He is expected to come off the DL later this month, but an exact estimate has not been determined. Bard may not be worth waiting for as a fantasy backstop, as he was only hitting .200 prior to going down, and would likely have to fight for playing time upon his return.
June 29, 2008
The Padres don't expect Josh Bard to return until after the All-Star break, MLB.com reports. He is on the DL due to a high ankle sprain. "It is painful to squat. I've also been told that these high ankle sprains tend to linger. Even though he'll be able to play at some point, he's going to feel some discomfort," manager Bud Black explains.

Our View:Bard is one of three Padres backstops that has struggled at the plate this year, and we're not completely sure what the organization will try moving forward. We'd think Josh would return as part of a committee, which means he'd have very little fantasy value.
June 25, 2008
Manager Bud Black said catcher Josh Bard is still at least two weeks from coming off the disabled list, this according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

Our View:Bard was struggling at the plate during the absence of Michael Barrett, and before heading to the DL was hitting .200 with only seven RBI and no home runs.
June 21, 2008
Josh Bard's high ankle sprain is improving, but he is still believed to be about four weeks away from returning to the Padres, according to the North County Times.

Our View:Bard was only hitting .200 over 130 at-bats prior to landing on the DL, but Michael Barrett is doing worse (.162), and Bard should continue to see regular playing time when he is healthy.
June 11, 2008
Josh Bard has been out since May 22nd with a high ankle sprain, and he is about a week away from returning to baseball activities, according to MLB.com. "Bardo is making progressing. He's in full-blown rehab mode. He's on a stationary bike ... he's starting to do things in the weight room," Padres manager Bud Black said.

Our View:Bard was unimpressive while in the lineup hitting .200, not that the Padres have gotten much better production from either of their other catchers in Michael Barrett (.200) or Luke Carlin (.167), so Bard will likely find playing time once he is healthy.
May 22, 2008
Updating an earlier story, Josh Bard was placed no the DL on Thursday with a sprained left ankle, according to the Associated Press. The team called up Colt Morton to back up Luke Carlin.

Our View:Bard has been a massive disappointment this year with just a .200 average with only seven RBI in 38 games. The Padres will try and get by for the next couple of days until Michael Barrett (elbow) is ready to be activated from the DL.
May 22, 2008
Starting catcher Josh Bard is likely headed to the DL after sustaining a high ankle sprain during battle with the Cardinals on Wednesday night when Albert Pujols slid into him at home plate, according to the SD Union-Tribune.

Our View:The team has yet to determine how long Bard will be out of action. They will likely bring Colt Morton back to the roster. Also of note, there is still no set target date as to when Michael Barrett will return to the team.
May 21, 2008
Josh Bard left Wednesday's game in the third inning with an apparent left ankle injury. Luke Carlin replaced him behind the plate.

Our View:We'll pass along info on the severity of Bard's injury when more is known.
May 11, 2008
Josh Bard was held out of Sunday's game after receiving a cortisone injection in his surgically repaired right wrist.

Our View:The team considers their starting catcher day-to-day.
May 1, 2008
Josh Bard went 0-for-3 on Thursday night to drop his average down to .209 for the Padres.

Our View:Bard has failed miserably to take advantage of the playing time he was given with the injury to Michael Barrett. Bard is now 1-for-18 over the last five games, and it doesn't get much worse than that for a career .271 hitter.
April 1, 2008
Josh Bard struggled through spring training, but he was still awarded the opening night start against Houston, and he stepped up as he went 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. This was a great effort as he fights Michael Barrett for playing time this season.
March 25, 2008
Josh Bard continues to struggle at the plate this spring as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Angels on Monday. He is going to fight Michael Barrett for playing time this season and really needs to end spring training on a high note, as his batting average currently sits at .212.
February 14, 2008
The Padres inked Josh Bard to a one-year, $2.2375 million deal Thursday, avoiding arbitration. Bard is slated to share time behind the plate with Michael Barrett this year.
