September 13, 2008 The Rays recalled Jonny Gomes from Triple-A Durham Saturday. He has a .182 average in 143 at-bats with the Rays this season. Our View:Gomes could get an occasional start at DH, but he's likely to be limited to pinch hitting duty. |

August 5, 2008 Tampa Bay optioned outfielder Jonny Gomes to the International League club on Tuesday, to make room for Ben Zobrist, according to the Our View:Gomes hit .182 with eight homers and 19 RBI in 69 games this season. He has also struck out 40 times in 143 at-bats. |

July 10, 2008 Jonny Gomes blasted his seventh home run from the eighth hole in the order for the Rays in their humiliating 13-2 loss to the Indians. Our View:Gomes is only hitting .190, but he still has averaged a home run every 16.9 AB. It's tough to get down on a guy when he bats only six times a week, and Gomes still is flashing 30-HR potential, though it doesn't appear that he will ever get enough AB to reach that total in Tampa. |

June 14, 2008 Tabbed as the Citrus Series, the Tampa Bay Rays put the hurt on the Florida Marlins today, winning 4-1 in interleague action. The Rays got the win on just five hits, all from different batters. Designated hitter Jonny Gomes led the way going 1-for-4 with his fifth home run of the season. Our View:Gomes is coming off a five-game suspension for the big Red Sox brawl and is doing a good job of redeming his character, at least on the field. |
