Adam Loewen has decided he wants to be the next Rick Ankiel. After three injury-filled seasons with the O's, Loewen has decided to reinvent himself as an outfielder/first baseman, perhaps as early as the fall instructional league, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I'm always going to be a pitcher," he said. "I've been doing it since I was 9 years old. It's going to be hard to let it go, but God has a plan for me."

Our View:Loewen was a highly regarded prospect, so it's disappointing he didn't make it as a pitcher. He had been due for another elbow surgery but won't need the operation as a position player.

Adam Loewen underwent a CT scan which revealed further damage to a previous stress fracture in his left elbow, according to the Baltimore Sun. The scan showed a "widening" of the original injury.

Our View:Loewen will be sidelined indefinitely until he decides on a course of action, but the team did not rule him out for the rest of the season.

Adam Loewen has been placed on the 15-day disabled list again after re-aggravating a stress fracture in his pitching elbow.

Our View:Loewen is one of the top young pitchers in the Orioles organization and don't be surprised if they shut him down for the remainder of the season.
July 7, 2008
The Baltimore Sun suggests that Adam Loewen is a "slam dunk" to go on the disabled list. The left-hander underwent a CT scan on Monday but no information is yet available.

Our View:Roch Kubatko reports he believes that left-hander Alberto Castillo, signed as a free agent in February, will replace Loewen on the active roster. Kubatko is 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in 19 games, with 16 hits allowed, six walks and 26 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings.
July 6, 2008
Adam Loewen left Sunday’s game in the top of the fifth inning due to elbow discomfort, according to the AP. He threw one inning of scoreless relief before being forced out of action with a 2-2 count on Ian Kinsler.

Our View:We will keep you posted on his status. He was recently activated from the DL following a bout with elbow soreness.
