Newsbreakers
December 29, 2008
Daniel Cabrera passed his physical, which formalized his one-year, $2.6 million contract with the Nationals, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:He underwent MRI exams on his throwing shoulder and elbow as part of his physical, as he spent time on the DL in 2008 after experiencing pain and tingling in his right elbow during a side session. That is part of the reason the Orioles did not decide to retain him.
December 23, 2008
Daniel Cabrera was offered slightly more money by the Pirates but opted to ink with the Nationals instead, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:He turned down the Pirates because he wanted to remain in the Beltway area. It remains to be seen if the Pirates will pursue another starting hurler this off-season.
December 20, 2008
Daniel Cabrera has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Nationals, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal is pending a physical.

Our View:He will fill the spot in the rotation left open by Tim Redding. Cabrera managed to join a club worse than the Orioles, and his fantasy stock does not look to be on the rise for 2009.
December 16, 2008
The Blue Jays are not one of the teams to have offered Daniel Cabrera a contract, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Cabrera's potential is the reason why he has 11 clubs interested at this point, but it's hard to tell if he'll ever reach it.
December 16, 2008
It has been revealed that the Pirates are one of the 11 clubs interested in hurler Daniel Cabrera, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Cabrera has a strong arm, but can be wild and erratic, which is part of the reason why Baltimore let him go. The Pirates could use pitching help, but Cabrera may only add to their woes.
