Robinson Cano is faring very well in the Dominican as he recorded 15 RBI over 17 games with nine extra-base hits, according to the Journal News.

December 5, 2008
Buster Olney of ESPN indicates that the Yankees would likely ask for prized pitchers Chad Billingsley or Clayton Kershaw if the Dodgers pursue a trade for second baseman Robinson Cano.

Our View:The Yankees would then ask for outfielder Matt Kemp if the Dodgers won't give up one of their hurlers. As previously mentioned, the Yankees have discussed Orlando Hudson as a potential replacement if Cano is dealt.
December 4, 2008
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports believes the Dodgers will inquire about Robinson Cano again during the Winter Meetings.

Our View:The Yankees will likely ask for outfielder Matt Kemp as part of a potential deal. Cano is performing well while playing in a Dominican Republic league right now.
December 3, 2008
Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who had a miserable start to last season that sunk his batting average to an end figure of .271, is hitting .303 with seven RBI as a DH in a league in the Dominican Republic, according to Yankees.com.

Our View:Cano is a better hitter than he showed last year, and even with his horrid start he hit 14 home runs and knocked in 72 runners. He is a prime candidate to regain his old form in 2009.
November 25, 2008
Robinson Cano is progressing well and is in great condition with the aid of a personal trainer, according to the NY Times.

Our View:The Yankees are expecting a solid bounce-back year from him after a disappointing 2008 campaign in which he only batted .271. He is working hard this off-season and is focused and determined. He looks to be a sleeper candidate for 2009.
November 20, 2008
The Yankees are said to have interest in second baseman Orlando Hudson, but the only problem is they have Robinson Cano. According to SI.com the Yankees might look to trade Cano or move him to first base if they would bring in Hudson.

Our View:Cano had an up-and-down year with the Yankees in 2008 and took a lot of heat from the media in New York. It might be a good for the second baseman to have a change of scenery.
November 7, 2008
Robinson Cano is believed to be on the Dodgers' radar, according to the NY Post. The Yankees are known to be interested in catcher Russell Martin and outfielder Matt Kemp.

Our View:Cano would favorably replace Jeff Kent at second base, but it was previously stated that the Dodgers are not shopping Russell Martin, and Yankees' officials added that Cano is most likely going to remain in New York.
November 4, 2008
Robinson Cano would be the centerpiece of any trade for Jake Peavy, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Cano is slated to make $27 million over the next three years, and with the Padres looking to shed salary, he may not be the most attractive option.
September 27, 2008
Robinson Cano went 3-for-5 with five RBI in Friday's 19-8 win over Boston. He hit two doubles and a single.

September 20, 2008
Robinson Cano hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the New York Yankees a 1-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles. It was his first hit in four at-bats on the day.

Our View:We're not exactly sure what happened to Cano this season, but he's trying to end strong, and has a four-game hitting streak.
September 19, 2008
Robinson Cano hit his first home run of the month on Friday. The blast was his 14th of the season.

Our View:Cano has hit well in his last three games going 6-for-10. Expect a strong finish from the second baseman.
September 17, 2008
Robinson Cano went 3-for-3 in his second game back after being benched for not running out a ground ball. He did not record any RBI or runs.

Our View:It was just his second three-hit game since August seventh. His typical big second half has been mediocre as he is hitting just .278 since the All-Star break. Fantasy owners no doubt expected more.
September 15, 2008
On Sunday, manager Joe Girardi, benched Robinson Cano for his lack of hustle and the benching continues tonight. Cano is not in the starting lineup against the White Sox, according to the AP.

Our View:It has been a disappointing season for the Yankees and especially for their starting second baseman. Cano is only hitting .260 this year with 13 home runs, and there is no news on how long Cano will be out of the starting lineup.
September 14, 2008
Robinson Cano was benched on Sunday for not hustling while playing defense, according to the Associated Press. “That’s embarrassing,” he said. “You’re playing and you’re taken out of the game. It’s a situation that no player would like to be in.”

Our View:Cano did say that manager Joe Girardi was right for removing him from the game after he failed to go hard after a ball that glanced of Jason Giambi's glove as Cliff Floyd was able to stretch the hit into a double. With his struggles at the plate this season (.260), Cano had better hustle or he could find himself out of the lineup.
September 10, 2008
Robinson Cano went 0-for-3 on Wednesday and he is now 6-for-38 in September (.158) to drop his average to .261.

Our View:Yet again, Cano is back to struggling at the dish this after batting .308 in 52 games in July and August. His up and down season continues, to the frustration of his fantasy owners.
August 24, 2008
Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano had a nice game in his team's 8-7 win over the Orioles. Cano went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI while scoring two runs.

Our View:Cano is hitting .299 in August, and has seven multi-hit games on the month. He has had a solid last two months and despite his early struggles, is on his way to putting up respectable numbers for fantasy owners.
August 16, 2008
Robinson Cano wetn 2-for-6 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Royals. He is hitting .327 since the All-Star break.

Our View:Cano's numbers remain well below what fantasy owners expected heading into the season, but a very strong finish could help ease some of the anger.
August 7, 2008
Robinson Cano got three hits and raised his average to .266 in the Yankees win over Texas.

Our View:Cano has seen his average climb steadily since he was under .200 as late as the middle of May. But he has returned to provide solid fantasy punch.
August 3, 2008
Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano was held out of the Yankees' lineup for a second consecutive game on Sunday, still protecting a bruised and swollen left hand that has impacted his hitting, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The second baseman received more treatment for the injury, which he believes traces back to being busted inside with a cutter by Boston's Jon Lester one week ago at Fenway Park. Cano said the pain affects him most while batting and is located on the meaty part of the palm. Cano is batting .344 (21-for-61) in 14 games since the All-Star break, but was 3-for-22 in the five games since he suffered the injury. The tentative plan is for Cano to rest all day Sunday and then take batting practice before Monday night's game at Texas.
August 2, 2008
Robinson Cano was not in today's lineup against the Angels due to an unspecified hand injury, according to The Sports Network.

Our View:Wilson Betemit started at second in place of Cano. No word on what the injury is yet, but we'll keep you updated.
July 26, 2008
Robinson Cano continued his torrid July, and extended his hitting streak to eight games, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and a home run today in Boston.

Our View:In his eight game hitting streak, Cano has multi-hit games in all but one of them, and is hitting a ridiculous .514 in those games.
July 24, 2008
The NY Post reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers have interest in Robinson Cano and may be willing to part with Derek Lowe and Matt Kemp for him.

Our View:It's purely rumor at this point but certainly makes for interesting conversation and seems to work out for both teams. Cano is hitting far below expectations at just .265.
July 21, 2008
Robinson Cano went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI in Monday's win over the Twins.

Our View:It must be the second half of the season because Cano is on fire. Cano is a cool 10-for-19 since the All-Star break.
July 19, 2008
Robinson Cano had four hits, including two doubles, in the Yankees' 4-3 win Saturday. He is batting exactly .300 since his woeful April.

Our View:Cano is a great buy low candidate for anyone looking to add punch to their middle infield for the second half.
July 18, 2008
The Yanks pulled their offensive magic once more, earning the 7-1 win over Oakland this evening. The bat of second baseman Robinson Cano helped the cause, going 2-for-4 with his seventh homer of the season to total three RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View:Cano is hitting just .273 through July and has not homered since June 27th. If he continues to struggle, the Yanks may seek alternative options.
July 9, 2008
Is it too late to make a move on Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano? Cano collected his sixth multi-hit performance in the last nine games with his 2-for-4 effort in Tuesday's win over Scott Kazmir. Cano is batting .348 (15-for-43) in his last 11 games and has raised his batting average from .227 on June 22 to .255.

Our View: Cano hit into his share of bad luck in the first half of the season and it won't be a surprise to see the .303 career hitter return to that level before the end of the 2008 campaign.
July 7, 2008
Robinson Cano is warming with the weather. Since June 22, Cano has raised his average from .227 to .252. The Yankees second baseman has back-to-back .300 seasons so there is little reason to believe that Cano won't continue to progress during the second half.

Our View:Cano remains a buy low candidate.
July 6, 2008
Robinson Cano scored the game-winning run against the Red Sox on Sunday. He was 2-for-4 with a two run triple.

Our View:Cano has raised his average 25 points since June 24th. He is 19-for-48 (.396) since that date. Expect a big second half from Cano. He hit .306 and .342 in the previous two seasons.
July 1, 2008
Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's tough 3-2 loss to the Rangers. The Yankees have now dropped three straight games.

June 27, 2008
Robinson Cano is hitting seventh in the batting order at Shea Stadium in Game 1 of a day-night double-header.

June 26, 2008
Robinson Cano has struggled to find his swing for most of this season, and things have finally started to turn around of late with six hits in two games, according to MLB.com. "People have asked me if it's the turning point, and I've thought a couple of times, 'Yes,'" Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We all feel and believe that Robbie is a lot better hitter than .220 or .230. Maybe this is the turning point."

Our View:Cano is hitting just .241 thanks in part to an artificially low BABIP of .250, well below his career .324 mark, so it's long been clear that a turn around has been in the offing. Now might be your last chance to add him in a trade before he really takes off.
June 25, 2008
Robinson Cano went 3-4 with a run scoring single in Tuesday night's loss to the Pirates.

Our View:The three hit performance raised his batting average to .235 on the year. The Yanks second baseman has four home runs and 27 RBI, a disappointing season so far in comparison to expectations and spring training projections.
June 20, 2008
Robinson Cano had two hits in three AB on Friday night while producing an RBI, his 25th of the season.

Our View:Cano is now hitting .232, the highest since it was at .333 after opening day. Wow, how shocking is that for a guy who owns a .302 career mark?
June 14, 2008
Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is out of the starting lineup this evening as New York faces Houston in interleague play.

Our View:Cano has been struggling at the plate and the team is hoping a rest can get him settled and focused. Recent-promoted Alberto Gonzalez will get the start at second in his stead.
May 14, 2008
Robinson Cano went 4-for-4 and and drove in a run with an RBI single to help the Yankees end the Tampa Bay Rays' six-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.

Our View:Cano, who has been in a major slump, need a night like this to get his engine started. The four hit performance raised his average from 1.83 to .205 on the season.
May 13, 2008
The Yanks suffered a troublesome 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays after 11 innings this evening, a night that saw continued struggles for the bulk of an offense that managed just six hits and seven strikeouts. The top offender on the evening was 2B Robinson Cano , going 0-for-4, and while he failed to earn a single strikeout, he stranded four men on-base.

Our View:His batting average also drops to .183, though he has worked hard to get that number up from the .151 mark he carried leaving April.
May 8, 2008
Robinson Cano went 2-for-3 with one RBI, and recorded his fourth home run of the season in Thursday's 6-3 win over Cleveland.

Our View:Cano needed a solid outing as he was only hitting .148 over 39 games, with a mere 10 RBI. He has now registered a hit in four straight games, and that was his second homer over seven games in May. Perhaps he is now starting to get on track.
May 5, 2008
Joe Girardi keeps hoping, day after day, that today will be the day Robinson Cano gets on track. this according to Newsday. Cano's homer in the third yesterday again gave Girardi reason to think he might be on the verge of regaining his stroke: "Maybe today gets him going, I'm not sure." Cano is hitting only .154. Because of that, he has mostly been talking to reporters either to explain his offensive doldrums or to translate for close buddy Melky Cabrera, who happens to be leading the team in homers with six.

Our View:Cano slumped last year as well. From April 26 to May 17, a span of 19 games, he batted .157 (11-for-70) with 18 strikeouts. This year he is 18- for-117 with three homers, eight RBIs and 15 strikeouts. It's far too early for owners to panic.
April 30, 2008
Robinson Cano continues to be unable to generate any offense as he went 0-for-3 to fall to .151 on the season.

Our View:Amazing. We are at a loss to explain how a .300 hitter like Cano can hit .151 for an entire month. It certainly can't get any worse than this though a look at his career record shows that his worst average is in the month of April (.24), so now is the time to make a play to acquire him at a bottom barrel price.
April 18, 2008
Robinson Cano went 1-for-4 on Friday as he continues to be mired in a miserable start to the 2008 season.

Our View:Cano is hitting only .171 through 70 AB in an extremely sluggish start to the season. The guy has one of the sweetest swings in the game and owns a career .312 batting average, so pity the pitchers he will face when he gets his groove back.
April 16, 2008
Robinson Cano is going to bat eighth in the Yankees' lineup tonight, according to The Boston Globe. He finally hit his first homer, but still only managed 10 hits over his first 57 at-bats, with eight strikeouts.

Our View:He will have less pressure to hit from the eighth spot, and could still post favorable numbers in the Yankees' strong offense.
April 14, 2008
Robinson Cano came off the bench on Monday and hit a solo shot in the eighth inning against the Rays. Cano's homer ended a 7-7 tie and proved to be the game-winner.

Our View:Fantasy owners know Cano is typically a second-half guy, but his frigid start has still been a bit tough to stomach. He hadn't scored a run until Monday night.
April 12, 2008
Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Saturday to up his batting average to .188 through 48 AB.

Our View:Cano owns a .312 career batting average, so seeing this prolonged slump is a bit shocking, but he still has plenty of time to get that average back up to the .300 range.
April 12, 2008
Robinson Cano has slipped another spot in the Yankees' order as he is set to bat seventh against Boston on Saturday, according to the Boston Globe. He is only hitting .159 over 44 at-bats, with only one extra base hit.

Our View:This is really surprisng to see him struggle following a red hot spring training, and a strong 2007 campaign.
April 9, 2008
Robinson Cano was moved up to the second spot in the Yankees' batting order on Tuesday, and he was a disappointment as he only went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts, while leaving five men on base in a 5-2 loss to Kansas City. He was previously batting sixth in the order but moved up as Derek Jeter was out of the lineup with his quad ailment. He holds a .188 batting average, and could fall back down in the order if he doesn't start to perform.
April 8, 2008
Robinson Cano has moved up from sixth to second in the Yankees' batting order today, due primarily to the absence of Derek Jeter, who is out nursing his quad injury. Cano will have a great chance to score a lot of runs from the number two spot, with Bobby Abreau and A-Rod hitting behind him in the order.
April 2, 2008
Robinson Cano, who is batting sixth in the order, went 1-for-3 against Toronto on Tuesday. He was on fire through training camp and hopefully he can remain hot.
April 1, 2008
Robinson Cano is hitting sixth for the Yankees tonight, and he will stay in that spot going forward, according to MLB.com. "Right now, I'm planning on using him as our sixth hitter as we move forward," manager Joe Girardi said. "It's not so much about what the other guys didn't do, it's more about what Robbie has done and who he is. I like him there, and he'll stay there for right now." Cano hit in the bottom third of the order most of last season, so this is certainly good news for his owners who are expecting Cano to take another step forward this season.
March 25, 2008
Robinson Cano continued his hot streak against Cleveland on Tuesday as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI, pushing his spring total to 19. His average also climbed to .464 and he has to be going off draft boards higher and higher with each passing day.
March 25, 2008
Robinson Cano went 3-for-4 with an eye opening five RBI against the Phillies on Monday, with three of the runs coming on a homer, his second of the spring. Cano continues to light it up this spring as he holds a .442 average with 17 RBI.

January 25, 2008
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that Robinson Cano has reached a preliminary agreement on a contract that will guarantee him $30 million over the next four seasons and could pay him $56 million over the next six. Cano has established himself as one of the top second basemen in the game, hitting .306 with 19 homers and 97 RBI in 2007, and the Yanks did a good job in locking him down long-term.
January 24, 2008
Robinson Cano and the Yankees are nearing agreement on a $30 million, four-year contract, according to the AP. Cano's deal would include two option years, a person familiar with the negotiations told the AP.
January 23, 2008
Robinson Cano, who is in the first year of arbitration, would be open to signing a long-term contract with the Yankees, according to Newsday. The Yankees have yet to comment on the matter, but you have to figure they'd be interested in locking down Cano, who hit .306 with 19 homers and 97 RBI last season.
