Dioner Navarro hit a bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Rays a walk-off victory on Tuesday night. It was his only hit of the game.

Our View:Navarro was awful in August and has dealt with nagging injuries throughout 2008, but at .293, 47 RBI, and 24 doubles he has produced enough for a catcher to warrant fantasy acknowledgement. He is just 24 so he should be on the fantasy radar for a few more seasons.

Dioner Navarro had four hits on Thursday night to boost his average to .297 for the Rays.

Our View:Navarro had an awful August hitting just .194 while dealing with some nagging injuries so it's great to see him bust out like this tonight. It's always hard to predict how a catcher will hold up over the course of a long season so we'll have to see how Navarro proceeds down the stretch.

Dioner Navarro will get a few days off to rest his ailing hamstrings, as they ached after Saturday's game, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Navarro returned on Saturday after missing most of the week with the hamstring ailment. Now, it sounds as if he will not be back until the middle of this week.
August 30, 2008
The Rays should be happy to get Dioner Navarro back in the lineup today as they face the Orioles, returned from hamstring pain that appears to be improved, according to the St. Petersburgh Times.

Our View:Shortstop Jason Barlett returns after a day off as well, giving the Rays a lift as they push to stay hot moving towards the playoffs.
August 29, 2008
Dioner Navarro said his hamstrings were improving, and the team is looking at Saturday as the day for his return, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Navarro was available to come off the bench on Thursday, and he took some swings in the batting cage before the game. He has had a solid if unspectacular season, with an average of .290 with six home runs and 43 RBI.
August 28, 2008
Dioner Navarro was again out of the starting lineup on Thursday due to the lingering cramps in his hamstrings, though he hopes to be able to return to action on Saturday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Navarro could be used in a pinch if needed, but the team is comfortable in giving him a couple more days off to make sure that this issue doesn't become a substantial concern.
August 28, 2008
Dioner Navarro underwent a MRI on Wednesday after he had been suffering from some cramping hamstrings. According to The Tampa Tribune the results of the MRI showed nothing wrong and just a little rest should be the cure for the All-Star backstop.

Our View:Navarro got Wednesday off and looks like right now he will be out of the lineup tonight also.
August 27, 2008
Dioner Navarro was out of Wednesday night's starting lineup, but Rays manager Joe Maddon said the backstop was available off the bench if necessary, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The club's starting catcher, Navarro left Tuesday night's game in the bottom of the sixth inning with cramping in both hamstrings. Fortunately, the already injury-plagued Rays caught a break when an MRI on his legs came back clean. Although Maddon said he wanted to "back up" by giving Navarro some rest, the skipper didn't rule out using the switch-hitting Navarro if necessary during Wednesday's contest against the Blue Jays.
August 27, 2008
Dioner Navarro's MRI revealed no serious problems to his hamstrings, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:His status is day-to-day, he shouldn't miss any extended period of time. Look for this All-star to get back on track whenever he returns to the lineup.
August 14, 2008
Dioner Navarro hit a single in the 12th inning that put the Rays up 7-5 over Oakland, and it wound up being the game winner as Tampa would go on to a 7-6 victory. Navarro was 2-for-4 with two RBI on the day.

Our View:Navarro saw his average in August rise 30 points, from .179 to .209 with his performance today. Navarro had really struggled producing runs in July, but his eight RBI this month are now twice the amount he had in July.
August 5, 2008
Dioner Navarro went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs, and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Indians.

Our View:Coming into the night, Navarro had managed only one run and two RBI since July 5. Needless to say, it's nice to see him producing again.
July 12, 2008
Rays catcher Dioner Navarro did what he could to get his team moving towards a win but failed as Tampa Bay fell 8-4 to Cleveland. Navarro went 2-for-3 on the night with his 16th double of the season, totaling two RBIs along the way.

Our View:Navarro has kept the bat in check through July, going 11-for-37 for a .297 batting average through July. However, he hasn't hit a homer since June 20th and has just four RBIs this month.
July 1, 2008
The Rays continue to stay hot, tonight pushing through a pitcher's duel to emerge 3-1 over the Boston Red Sox. Catcher Dioner Navarro led the way, going 2-for-4 at the dish with two RBIs on the night.

Our View:Navarro is now hitting .316 on the season but has fallen over the last month, hitting just .253 through June after hitting .333 in May. However, he's showcasing power along the way, hitting three homers with 13 RBIs through June.
June 20, 2008
Dioner Navarro went deep for the fourth time on the year, his only hit in a 1-for-4 outing against the Astros.

Our View:Navarro continues to be a solid option behind the dish with a .324 average and 28 RBI for the Rays.

With Carl Crawford out of the lineup, hot-hitting catcher Dioner Navarro was penciled into the No. 2 spot Tuesday. "He reminds me a lot of Carl Crawford," manager Joe Maddon told MLB.com with a chuckle. "The thing about that is, [Navarro is] a switch-hitter. There's a lot of things you can do with him. He plays a pretty complete game. He's not fast, but he's a very good baserunner. If you look at his on-base percentage hitting left-handed [.404], I'm just trying to get people on base in front of the three, four, five guys."

Our View:Navarro would be leading the AL with his .352 batting mark if he had enough at-bats to qualify. He's been a nice late-round bargain so far, though his power numbers (one homer, 18 RBI), aren't anything to write home about.
May 18, 2008
Dioner Navarro went 1-for-4 on Sunday and finished the game with a .368 batting average.

Our View:Admit it, you hadn't realized he was hitting that well did you? Navarro hit .355 in 31 AB in April and is now hitting .346 in 52 AB in May. He may offer little in the power categories, but there may not be a better number two catcher to roll with right now.
May 13, 2008
It took 11 innings to get the job done, but the Tampa Bay Rays emerged victorious 2-1 over the New York Yankees. Few of the batters let their best effort loose at the plate, but catcher Dioner Navarro went 2-for-3 with a walk, and while none of those offerings led to a run scored, they set the tone for a hard-fought win.

Our View:Navarro is on a bit of a role, suffering just one strikeout over his last nine games, going 11-for-28 during that same span.
May 8, 2008
Dioner Navarro hit a grand slam in the 13th inning to help the Rays to an 8-3 victory over the Jays. Navarro had three hits and two runs on the night.

Our View:Navarro has been sharing time with Shawn Riggans in the early going but he has now boosted his average to .368 which calls for some more AB don't you think?
April 22, 2008
Dioner Navarro wasted no time in rediscovering his swing. The backstop went 3-for-4 with one run and two RBI in Tuesday's win over the Blue Jays. Navarro was also caught stealing. He came off the DL on Tuesday night.

Our View:The 24-year-old catcher has quietly been a quality fantasy player since late last July, and the time spent on the disabled list apparently didn't cool him off.
April 22, 2008
As expected, Dioner Navarro is listed as the starter for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, the Tampa Tribune reports. The backstop is returning from a stint on the DL due to finger lacerations. Navarro went 4-for-10 during his minor league rehab stint.

Our View:Navarro hit well this spring and over the opening three games. Hopefully the injuries won't serve to cool down his bat.
April 22, 2008
Dioner Navarro finished his rehab following his hand injury and is expected to be activated from the DL today, according to the AP. The team is also expected to designate backup catcher Mike DiFelice for assignment.

Our View:Navarro would step in as the Rays' starting catcher when he returns, and Shawn Riggans would serve as his backup.
April 18, 2008
Dioner Navarro batted six times in an extended spring training game on Thursday and should be able to rejoin the Rays on Tuesday, the Tampa Tribune reports. He is out due to lacerations on the middle and ring fingers of his right hand.

Our View:Fantasy owners can plan on getting Navarro back in their lineups next week.
April 16, 2008
Dioner Navarro was able to play in an extended spring training game on Wednesday and though he didn't bat because of his injured hand, he did throw out a runner trying to steal, this according to the St. Petersberg Times.

Our View:There is still no timetable for his return to the Rays, but when he is recalled it is not clear whom the Rays will demote be it either Mike DiFelice or Shawn Riggans.
April 14, 2008
Dioner Navarro had the stitches removed from the middle and ring fingers on his right hand on Monday. The catcher proceeded to take cuts off a tee and make throws in the outfield, the Tampa Tribune reports. Navarro is eligible to return on Sunday, but the team isn't sure if he'll be ready by then.

Our View:Navarro followed up a strong spring with a 3-for-9 start, and we hope the injury won't cause him to turn back into a useless hitter. We'll continue to update his status.
April 4, 2008
Dioner Navarro was placed on the DL after Friday's game with lacerations on the middle and ring fingers of his right hand, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The Rays purchased the contract of Mike DiFelice from Triple-A Durham. Expect Shawn Riggans to get the bulk of the time behind the plate while Navarro is out.
April 4, 2008
