Newsbreakers
January 6, 2009
Takashi Saito reportedly received close to 10 offers last month from interested MLB clubs, according to the NPB Tracker.

January 4, 2009
The Boston Globe reports that the Dodgers made an offer to free-agent Takashi Saito earlier this winter.

Our View:Saito, who has 81 saves over the past three seasons, is coming off elbow problems and was not tendered a contract by the Dodgers.
December 17, 2008
The St. Louis Cardinals may be interested in former Dodgers closer Takashi Saito to close out games for them, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Saito is coming off elbow problems and was not tendered a contract by the Dodgers. St. Louis is looking for a short-term option at closer until Chris Perez or Jason Motte is deemed ready.
December 14, 2008
Despite being non-tendered by the Dodgers this past week, Takashi Saito could still return to the Dodgers, at least according to the team, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. "What Takashi did here in Los Angeles was tremendous," Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said. "We will leave the door open and see if there is a way we can bring him back."

Our View:Saito wanted a guaranteed deal, one that the club wasn't willing to offer considering the concerns with his elbow, and as a result he is now searching for work. With Jonathan Broxton and Hong-Chih Kuo already in the mix, it is unclear where Saito would fit even if he was re-signed.
December 12, 2008
Takashi Saito was non-tendered by the Dodgers on Friday, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The Dodgers also non-tendered Scott Proctor, Yhency Brazoban, Angel Berroa, and Mario Alvarez.

Our View:Saito has 18 saves for the Dodgers last year but lost his closing job to the hard-throwing Jonathan Broxton later in the year.
