Tom Gordon underwent surgery on his right elbow Thursday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery, which included an ulnar nerve decompression and the removal of loose bodies and a bone spur.

Our View:Gordon is in the final days of a three-year, $18 million contract. The Phillies have a $4.5 million option, or $1 million buyout, on Gordon for 2009, and they are expected to take the buyout. Gordon has been on the DL since early July.

Our View:Gordon has not pitched since July because of the injury. There was some speculation that he could return to the team if they made a postseason push, but that is obviously not going to happen.

It is possible that Phillies reliever Tom Gordon, who is dealing with an elbow injury, could return to the the team should they make the postseason, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Gordon has been throwing off of flat ground, and he'll only be back if he makes quicker-than-expected progress. He won't be back in the regular season, squashing any potential fantasy value.

Tom Gordon, who has been on the DL since July with an elbow injury, threw off flat ground without pain Tuesday at the Carpenter Complex in Clearwater, Florida, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:There is a slim chance he will return to the Phillies' bullpen in the regular season, but if he continues to progress he may be available in the playoffs.
August 12, 2008
Philadelphia receiver Tom Gordon is probably going to be out for the rest of this season, according to Phillies.com. He has an injury to his ulnar collateral ligament, near the elbow.

Our View:Gordon is going to wear a brace and try to rehab his elbow in hopes of avoiding Tommy John surgery, which would cost him all of next season.
