John Danks allowed three runs over 6.2 innings against the Rays to lead the Sox to a 5-3 victory in Game 3. Danks gave up seven hits and three walks in the outing, though he also struck out seven batters.

Our View:Over his last two must win appearances the young lefty is 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA. Danks may or may not pitch again this post-season, but he has clearly shown that he has the heart of a winner which is something to keep in mind for next season.

Trading John Danks to the White Sox for Brandon McCarthy still pains Rangers owner Tom Hicks, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Our staff made the judgment that Danks was two years away, and they were absolutely wrong. The comforting thing for me now is we have a new leader, and if Nolan had been there, we never would have done [the Danks deal]. And we will never trade a No. 1 pick, a left-handed pitcher again," Hicks said.

Our View:Nolan Ryan is now the team president, and Texas general manager Jon Daniels is basically powerless, the paper reports. Trading young pitching to "win now" is almost never a good idea, and though it works sometimes, there are too many examples where it went wrong. Just see St. Louis trading Dan Haren for Mark Mulder, or the Mets trading Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano for two quick examples.

John Danks, pitching on three days rest, dominated the Twins with eight shutout innings in the Sox 1-0 victory over Minnesota in Game 163 to qualify for the playoffs.

Our View:Danks held the Twins to two hits in his 12th victory of the season as he lowered his ERA to 3.32, the fifth best mark in the American League. Danks had a rough second half with a 5-5 record and a 4.26 ERA, but overall the 2008 season was a tremendous effort for a hurler who went 6-13 with a 5.50 ERA as a rookie last season.

The AP reports that John Danks will start the one-game playoff against the Twins on Tuesday to decide who will go to the playoffs.

Our View:Danks' last outing was abbreviated to four innings. He allowed seven runs to the Indians. For his career, he has a 6.88 ERA in seven starts against the Twins.
September 26, 2008
John Danks was rocked for seven earned runs on seven hits over four innings in Friday's 11-8 loss to the Indians at U.S. Cellular Field, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View:Danks ended a four-game stretch without a loss, and issued no earned runs in each of his previous two. The Twins lost to the Royals, but Danks could not shut down the Indians to help the Sox gain any ground in the AL Central race.
