The Sun-Sentinel reports that the Florida Marlins have released Sergio Mitre who underwent Tommy John surgery in July.

Our View:The Marlins figure to mix up the roster quite a bit this offseason with 18 arbitration eligible players. Mitre's head was the first to roll. He could miss all of next season as well.
July 15, 2008
Sergio Mitre underwent Tommy John surgery today, ending the season for the 27-year-old hurler, according to FloridaMarlins.com.

Our View:Not only will Mitre miss the rest of this season, it's a distinct possibility he could miss all of next season as well.

Sergio Mitre, who is recovering from a strained right forearm, threw batting practice on Friday at the Marlins' spring training facility, according to the Miami Herald. He threw 20 pitches during the session, which was his first involving hitters since sustaining the injury in spring training.

Our View:The Marlins are targeting an August return for Mitre, who went 5-8 as a starter in 2007.
June 14, 2008
Sergio Mitre threw 30 pitches off a mound on Friday, the Miami Herald reports. He is on the DL due to a strained right forearm and has not pitched this year.

Our View:Once he's ready, we imagine Mitre will need to make three or four minor league rehab outings before rejoining the Marlins. We'd guess he's at least three weeks away, if not much more.
April 29, 2008
Sergio Mitre may begin throwing in a week, according to MLB.com. Mitre hasn't had any activity since straining his forearm in mid March.

Our View:A best-case scenario would have Mitre coming back in late May, but it will probably be sometime in June.
