Geoff Geary threw a 50-pitch simulated game on Sunday, and will be back in the Astros bullpen on Tuesday, according to Astros.com.

Our View:Geary has been out since late August with a groin injury, but will return this week. He is only valuable to fantasy owners who utilize middle relievers for holds or other purposes.

Geoff Geary threw 30 pitches in the bullpen prior to Friday’s game and indicated his strained groin felt better, according to the Houston Chronicle. The last five were four-seam fastballs thrown at full-strength. He hasn't pitched since August 26 due to the ailment.

Our View:Geary will throw another bullpen session Sunday and if things go favorably without a setback, he will be available for next week’s series against the Pirates. He has fared well as a middle reliever this season.

Geoff Geary, who is nursing a right groin injury, was unavailable for a second straight game Wednesday, but is almost ready to return to the hill, according to the Houston Chronicle. Manager Cecil Cooper said, "I’m going to say one more day for Geary. He felt awful good Tuesday. He threw off the mound a little bit and felt not as bad as we thought."

Our View:Geary has fared well as a middle reliever this season, as he only allowed 13 earned runs over 50.1 innings, with a 1.13 WHIP and 40 strikeouts. He should be safe to return to lineups for the next fantasy week.

Houston reliever Geoff Geary has suffered a minor groin pull but remains on the active roster despite the injury, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Geary didn't know if the club would place him on the DL on Tuesday morning, but after he played catch and ran briefly, the right-hander remained on the active roster. He reports the pain is manageable but remains a concern. We'll keep you posted if the Astros change their minds and send Geary to the DL.
June 2, 2008
The Astros have activated Geoff Geary from the DL, according to the Sports Network. As previously reported, Jack Cassel was optioned to Triple-A to clear a roster spot for Geary.

Our View:He will return to the bullpen in a setup role, and was solid prior to landing on the DL, as he only allowed three runs over 18.1 innings, with 17 strikeouts. He should continue to hold value in NL-only leagues. The team was previously expected to wait until Tuesday to activate him.

Geoff Geary is going to be activated from the DL on Tuesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. He has recovered from a strained groin. Jack Cassel has been optioned to Triple-A to open up a roster spot for Geary.

Geoff Geary threw a two-inning simulated game on Saturday as he recovers from a right groin strain, according to MLB.com. Geary pitched to catcher J.R. Towles and outfielder Michael Bourn, and threw 15 pitches in each inning as a final step toward activation from the DL. Geary said, "I don't feel any pain or strain anywhere. It's just a matter of controlling adrenaline, which is beyond controllable right now."

Our View:Geary will be activated prior to Tuesday's opener in Pittsburgh, barring a setback. He was enjoying a solid season while working out of the Astros' pen, as he held a 1.15 WHIP over 18.1 innings, with 17 strikeouts. He should continue to hold value in NL-only leagues upon his return.
May 29, 2008
Geoff Geary continues to progress well in his comeback from a strained right groin and he appears to be on track to be activated from the DL next Tuesday, according to MLB.com. "I don't feel my groin anymore," Geary said. "Now, it's just a matter of getting used to throwing 30-pitch bullpens."

Our View:Hopefully he hasn't lost all feeling in that region. Geary was one of the unsung relievers in the NL prior to his injury as he has limited the long ball while striking out almost a batter per inning giving him value in NL Only leagues.
May 27, 2008
Geoff Geary threw 25 pitches during a pain-free bullpen session on Tuesday and could be activated from the DL within a week, according to MLB.com. "I threw a couple slide-step pitches and didn't feel anything," Geary said. "The next step is doing side-to-side movements and bunt defense, bunt plays. Once I feel OK with that, there's no reason why I shouldn't be out there in a game." Geary has been on the DL since May 16 with a strained right groin.

Our View:Manager Cecil Cooper doesn't think Geary will need to go on a rehab assignment. He's had a very nice year for Houston, compiling a 1.47 ERA with 17 Ks in 18 1/3 innings.

Geoff Geary threw 20 pitches off the mound Sunday for the second day in a row and expects to be ready to be activated from the DL later this week, according to the Houston Chronicle. He has been on the DL since May 16 with a strained right groin.

Our View:Geary pitched well prior to going down, as he held a 1.47 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 18.1 innings, with 17 strikeouts. His WHIP would have been better, if not for 10 walks.
May 16, 2008
Righty reliever Geoff Geary has been placed on the 15-day DL due to a strained right groin, according to the AP. Right-handed pitcher Fernando Nieve has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to fill his spot on the roster.

Our View:Geary was pitching well as he has not allowed a run in 10 consecutive appearances since April 26. He holds a 1.47 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 18.1 innings, with 17 strikeouts. He will be a tough loss for the Astros' bullpen.
May 15, 2008
Geoff Geary was removed from his appearance on Thursday due to a strained right groin. No further information is currently available.

Our View:Geary has been a solid under the cover of night type reliever in the NL this season with a 1.50 ERA covering 18.1 innings. Stay tuned for updates about his health.
