Jason Hirsh threw 70 pitches in a three-inning simulated game Thursday, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Hirsh has been working to stay on line during his leg kick to avoid drifting and land in a better position, and he said, "Everything else feels good when I do that."

Our View:Manager Clint Hurdle would like to start Hirsh before the end of the season.

The Colorado Rockies activated Jason Hirsh (shoulder) from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Friday.

Our View:Hirsh will work with the team's top affiliate for now, but he's expected to return to the Rockies rotation as soon as next week.

Jason Hirsh tossed five scoreless innings Tuesday in his third rehab start for Triple-A Colorado Springs. He is coming back from a right shoulder strain. He's posted a 3.65 ERA in his three outings, though he's issued 11 walks.

Our View:The Rockies have a hole at the back of their rotation, and that hole could be filled by Hirsh. They have an opening on Saturday (unless they want to stick with Glendon Rusch), but that would mean Hirsh would start on three day's rest. Or the team could have Aaron Cook pitch on three day's rest Saturday and give Hirsh the Sunday start.

Jason Hirsh is making progress on his right shoulder strain and should be able to throw 100 pitches some time in June, according to the Denver Post. Pitching coach Bob Apodaca said he's not sure how soon Hirsh will be ready to face big-league batters.

Our View:Hirsh has some upside, but allowed 18 home runs over 19 starts in 2007, with a 4.81 ERA and 5-7 record. It remains uncertain when he will return to the Rockies, and he is not worth waiting for.
May 21, 2008
Jason Hirsh, who is recovering from a right shoulder strain, is scheduled to throw a "camp" game in Tucson, essentially an intrasquad game, since there was not a game scheduled for Wednesday, according to MLB.com. "This will be his first game he's thrown in, so we have to see how today goes before we progress him to the next step," Rockies head athletic trainer Keith Dugger said. "We're getting on a four-day rotation, five-rotation, depending on how he feels."

Our View:Hirsh is still a long ways away from a return, since he missed nearly all of spring training.
