Jason Hirsh threw 70 pitches in a three-inning simulated game Thursday, according to the Rocky Mountain News. Hirsh has been working to stay on line during his leg kick to avoid drifting and land in a better position, and he said, "Everything else feels good when I do that."

Our View:Manager Clint Hurdle would like to start Hirsh before the end of the season.

The Colorado Rockies activated Jason Hirsh (shoulder) from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Friday.

Our View:Hirsh will work with the team's top affiliate for now, but he's expected to return to the Rockies rotation as soon as next week.
June 11, 2008
Jason Hirsh tossed five scoreless innings Tuesday in his third rehab start for Triple-A Colorado Springs. He is coming back from a right shoulder strain. He's posted a 3.65 ERA in his three outings, though he's issued 11 walks.

Our View:The Rockies have a hole at the back of their rotation, and that hole could be filled by Hirsh. They have an opening on Saturday (unless they want to stick with Glendon Rusch), but that would mean Hirsh would start on three day's rest. Or the team could have Aaron Cook pitch on three day's rest Saturday and give Hirsh the Sunday start.

Jason Hirsh is making progress on his right shoulder strain and should be able to throw 100 pitches some time in June, according to the Denver Post. Pitching coach Bob Apodaca said he's not sure how soon Hirsh will be ready to face big-league batters.

Our View:Hirsh has some upside, but allowed 18 home runs over 19 starts in 2007, with a 4.81 ERA and 5-7 record. It remains uncertain when he will return to the Rockies, and he is not worth waiting for.
May 21, 2008
Jason Hirsh, who is recovering from a right shoulder strain, is scheduled to throw a "camp" game in Tucson, essentially an intrasquad game, since there was not a game scheduled for Wednesday, according to MLB.com. "This will be his first game he's thrown in, so we have to see how today goes before we progress him to the next step," Rockies head athletic trainer Keith Dugger said. "We're getting on a four-day rotation, five-rotation, depending on how he feels."

Our View:Hirsh is still a long ways away from a return, since he missed nearly all of spring training.
May 19, 2008
Jason Hirsh (strained forearm) is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Tuesday as is Luis Vizciano (shoulder), according to MLB.com.

Our View:Hirsh and Vizciano should both give rosters in NL Only leagues a boost when they return, but neither figures to be a difference maker.
May 14, 2008
Jason Hirsh threw 30 pitches over two simulated innings on Tuesday. He is happy with his progress and hopes to return in mid-June, the Denver Post reports. Hirsh is out due to a strained right shoulder.

Our View:Hirsh will have some value in NL-only leagues when he comes back next month. We'll continue to monitor his progress.
April 25, 2008
Jason Hirsh threw 15 pitches off the mound on Thursday, according to the Denver Post. It was the first time he threw off the mound since injuring his right shoulder in spring training. Hirsh commented, "I'm happy. I didn't feel a thing. My arm felt normal."

Our View:He is on pace to return to the Rockies' rotation in mid-May. He only went 5-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 2007, and he won't be a hot waiver wire target when he returns.
April 9, 2008
Jason Hirsh, who is on the DL with a strained right rotator cuff, has begun throwing in the Rockies' extended spring training program, according to the Rocky Mountain News. He remains more than a month away from being activated.
March 30, 2008
The Rockies shut down Jason Hirsh this past week and today placed the right-hander on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21. Hirsh suffered a set back to his right shoulder. There is no timetable for his return at this point.
March 28, 2008
The Rockies have shut Jason Hirsh down to allow his ailing shoulder to heal, according to the Denver Post. Hirsch entered camp as the No. 4 starter, but his strained shoulder has kept him out of action since March 1. At this point, consider Hirsh to be out indefinitely.
March 17, 2008
Jason Hirsh is slated to throw Monday for the first time since straining his shoulder over two weeks ago, according to the Denver Post. "This is the best news I've had for two weeks," said Hirsh. "My shoulder is responding really well to treatment. It's tough to go through this, but I'm confident I can contribute once I'm healthy." Despite taking a step forward today, Hirsh probably will begin the season on the disabled list.
March 9, 2008
Jason Hirsh still was bothered by his sore shoulder during a throwing session on Friday, according to the Denver Post. "It's better than it was. We are just taking it day by day," Hirsh said. "I would like to get out there, but I don't want to rush it and make it worse." If he doesn't return to the mound soon, there's a realistic chance he won't be ready when the regular season begins.
March 7, 2008
Not only was Jason Hirsh held out of Wednesday's game due to a sore right shoulder, but he won't take part in Sunday's game, either, according to the Denver Post. While the Rockies say they're being cautious, it's possible that Hirsh won't be ready for the start of the regular season.
March 5, 2008
Jason Hirsh will not make his scheduled start on Wednesday due to a sore right shoulder. "My shoulder's just a little sore, but it's not a big deal," Hirsh tells the Denver Post. "It's just a normal part of spring training. At this stage of camp, we are just erring on the side of caution."
