Newsbreakers
November 20, 2008
Brian McCann has trimmed 20 pounds since the end of the 2008 season, according to MLB.com.

Our View:He has dealt with knee ailments, and is hoping slimming down will help him stay healthier.
November 13, 2008
Brian McCann won his second Silver Slugger award on Thursday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:McCann also won the award in 2006. Most of McCann's numbers in 2008 were down from 2006, but he's still one of the top two offensive catchers in the majors along with the Twins' Joe Mauer.

Braves catcher Brian McCann is one of the best at his position offensively, but that is not enough for him, as he plans to improve his defense, according to Braves.com. "I need to make my weaknesses my strength," McCann said.

Our View:The 24-year-old has thrown out only 22% of the runners attempting to steal off of him, which is dead last in the National League. Fantasy owners can only hope improving his defense doesn't take anything away from the great numbers he puts up at the plate.
September 3, 2008
Brian McCann had a tough day at the plate in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Marlins, as he went 0-for-4 while stranding three men on base.

Our View:He was on the verge of cracking .300, but his average falls down to .295 following today's peformance. He has now gone hitless in two straight games.
September 1, 2008
Braves catcher Brian McCann had a difficult day on Monday, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his team's 4-3 loss to the Marlins.

Our View:McCann is coming off a 6-for-11 streak, so his rare day of trouble should be acceptable to fantasy owners.
