Donnie Murphy has signed a minor league deal with the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun. His agent (Jim Kuzmich) said, "Donnie is looking for a place to play much more consistently than he was in Oakland. You’re talking about a kid that came up playing in the Kansas City organization every day. The Orioles expressed that should Donnie’s bat develop into what we think it could develop into on the major league level, they see him having a more-defined role."

Our View:The 25-year-old only batted .184 over 46 games with the Athletics in 2008, but perhaps the 25-year-old infielder can get his career on track in Baltimore.

Donnie Murphy has been recalled as insurance for third baseman Jack Hannahan, who strained a muscle in his rib cage, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:Murphy will provide depth, but not much else as he holds a .186 average over 102 at-bats, with three homers.
July 21, 2008
The A's designated infielder Donnie Murphy for assignment on Monday, the Oakland Tribune confirms.

Our View:This news shouldn't affect any fantasy teams. If you were carrying a utility infielder hitting .188, your fantasy squad has big problems.
July 8, 2008
Donnie Murphy tested his sore right elbow and was available, if needed, on Monday, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:The utility man holds favorable value to Oakland with his glove, but holds no fantasy value with his bat, as he is hitting .197 over 76 at-bats. He has played at 2B, SS, 3B, and one game in the outfield this season.

Donnie Murphy was activated from the DL on Friday, according to MLB.com. To make room on the active roster, Gregorio Petit was sent down to Triple-A. "Everyone knows they have a chance to get in the lineup," Geren said. "When you're playing a National League team, you could go through a whole roster."

Our View:Murphy will be utilized against NL teams, but when the game returns to AL parks he will have virtually no value with Eric Chavez back in the lineup.
