Padres rookie Josh Banks was optioned to Triple-A Portand along with Bryan Corey according to CBSSportsline.com.

Our View:Banks was 3-6 with the Padres over 17 appearances.
August 1, 2008
Josh Banks twirled seven effective innings against the Giants on Friday night allowing two runs, one earned, over seven innings on the hill in a no-decision.

Our View:One of the runs scored on a passed ball, or he would have been in line for a win. He walked only one batter on the night with two strike outs as he lowered his ERA to 3.65.
July 26, 2008
San Diego hurler Josh Banks won his third game of the season tonight, but did not do it in impressive fashion, giving up five earned runs in 5.2 innings.

Our View:Banks allowed just one earned run in his first 23 innings this season, but in his last 23.1 innings, he has given up 17 runs. It might be wise to look somewhere else for pitching help in fantasy leagues.
July 1, 2008
Josh Banks surrendered four earned runs on six hits over five innings in Tuesday's 4-0 loss to Colorado, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Banks falls to 2-3, with his losses coming in three straight starts. He has allowed four runs in each of his last two, and is best left on your bench until he proves to be an effective starter again.
June 26, 2008
Josh Banks fell to 2-2 on Thursday as he allowed seven hits and two walks, leading to four runs, over 5.1 innings against the Twins.

Our View:Banks has been a great story, one who's ending is looking grim. After allowing one earned run in his first four appearances, Banks has faltered a bit of late with a 5.17 ERA over his last three starts, none of which lasted more than 5.1 innings. He hasn't pitched his way out of the rotation, yet.

Josh Banks will be trying to remain unbeaten when he faces the Yankees today in inter-league play, according to MLB.com. Banks is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 1.04 WHIP over 28 innings, with 17 strikeouts.

Our View:He has proven to be a steal for the Padres, as he landed in San Diego on a $20,000 waiver claim. He allowed three earned runs in his last start (against Cleveland), but allowed one or less runs in each of his previous four outings.
June 13, 2008
Josh Banks, who is 2-0 with a 0.39 ERA, is set to make his third start of the season tonight against the Indians, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Banks, who was claimed off waivers from the Jays last month, threw 22 straight scoreless innings with the Padres, which is a franchise record for a pitcher to start his career. Keep him active in your lineup against the Tribe.
June 6, 2008
Josh Banks had his second straight excellent start for the Padres as he held the Mets to just one run over six innings, though it was only good enough for a no-decision.

Our View:Banks now permitted a measly single earned run over 23.1 innings this season as he currently owns a freakish ERA of 0.39. This was also his second start without allowing a walk and he is clearly someone to target in NL Only leagues and deep mixed leagues while he is on a run like this.
May 31, 2008
Josh Banks dazzled in his start on Saturday, as he only allowed one run on six hits over nine innings in a 5-1 win over the Giants, with no walks and five strikeouts.

Our View:Banks has only allowed one earned run over 17 innings of action this season, and his fantasy stock remains on the rise following tonight's strong outing.
May 31, 2008
The San Diego Padres own the second-worst record in the National League (22-34) and hope to find a reversal of fortunes this evening by giving rookie RHP Josh Banks his first start as a Padres, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Banks has come out of the bullpen in his first two outings for San Diego this season, though he earned his first major league win in his last outing by pitching six shutout innings of baseball as part of the 18-inning marathon victory over the Reds on May 25th. Banks was recalled from Triple-A Portland on May 22 to take the rotation spot of the injured Chris Young. The Padres claimed the 24-year-old off waivers from Toronto on April 23. A second-round selection by the Blue Jays in the 2003 draft, Banks pitched in three games for Toronto last September, including one start.
May 27, 2008
As expected, Josh Banks will make a spot-start on Saturday in place of the injured Chris Young, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Banks has allowed no runs with only eight hits over eight innings, with five strikeouts this season, and has earned the start for Saturday.

Our View:Banks had been working as a starter in Triple-A, so his stamina was built up. He could be worth a look in NL-only leagues if you need help this week.
May 24, 2008
Josh Banks is likely to make his first start with the Padres next Saturday, according to MLB.com. "We do have to make a decision a week from tonight with a starting pitcher," said manager Bud Black. "It could come from this staff and the likely guy would be Josh Banks." Banks was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays last month.

Our View:Banks at one point was considered a pretty good prospect with Toronto. A former second-round pick, he has fallen on hard times the last couple years. The righty holds a combined ERA of 6.80 between Triple-A Syracuse and Triple-A Portland this season.
April 23, 2008
Starting pitcher Josh Banks was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Wednesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Banks, who will continue to pitch in Triple-A, was thought to be the first name the Blue Jays would call on if any of their starters were to be struck with an injury. Now, he will fill that same role with the Padres, though he may also be asked to pitch out of the bullpen. If he is called up to the majors, San Diego is an infinitely better place to pitch than Toronto.
