Manager Dusty Baker is impressed with Richar, the Reds' team website reports.

Our View:Richar is receiving playing time with Brandon Phillips sidelined, and he could be playing himself into a roster spot for 2009. Richar was a candidate for the White Sox second base job coming into the season before getting injured.

Brandon Phillips suffered a broken right index finger in Tuesday’s game and will miss the rest of the season. Danny Richar, who was called up last night, will fill the roster spot Phillips vacates.

Our View:Phillips was hitting .261 with 21 HR, 78 RBI and 23 steals. Richar is not a fantasy option at this point.

Danny Richar has been recalled by the Reds from Triple-A Louisville, according to the AP.

Our View:Richar failed to impress the White Sox (was part of the Ken Griffey Jr. trade), and shouldn't see much action with the Reds in the final month of the season.

The Reds acquired Danny Richar from the White Sox Thursday as part of the Ken Griffey Jr. deal. Richar is hitting .262 with nine homers and 11 steals for Triple-A Charlotte this year.

Our View:With Brandon Phillips already in Cincy, perhaps the Reds will move Richar to shortstop, where he has played in the minors. It's also possible that they simply view him as a backup at both short and second.

Infielder Danny Richar has been activated from the DL and optioned to Triple-A Charlotte, according to the AP.

Our View:Richar was placed on the DL on March 29 with a stress fracture in his rib cage, and has not played in the majors this season.

The White Sox have sent Danny Richar to Triple-A Charlotte to begin a rehab assignment, according to the AP. Richar will be seeing his first game action since fracturing a rib cage in spring training.

Our View:Richar could eventually work his way back into regular playing time and would be worth using in AL-only leagues.

Danny Richar is progressing well from his fractured first left rib, and the Sox hope he will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte by the end of the month, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:Richar has dealt with the injury since spring training. With Juan Uribe's average south of the Mendoza line, Richar could eventually earn some starts at second.

Our View:Richar could provide solid depth off the bench for Chicago, but isn't ready to make an impact as an every day player. His fantasy stock shall remain low.

Danny Richar has a stress fracture in a rib on his left side and will be sidelined four to six weeks, this according to the Chicago Sun Times. Richar will be held out of baseball activities while the injury heals, and is expected to start the season on the disabled list. With Richar injured, and Juan Uribe in limbo, it appears that Alexei Ramirez is a lock to be the starting second baseman on opening day.

On Wednesday, Danny Richar aggravated the back injury that bothered him while playing winter ball in the Dominican League, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. "He's got this back problem, and this was a guy that was already behind," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We'll see. Hopefully he can bounce back and not fall too far behind." As Guillen pointed out, Richar had fallen behind in the competition for second base because he arrived late to camp due to visa promblems. At this point, Juan Uribe is the leading candidate to start at second, so Richar has his work cut out for him, even if his back injury doesn't linger.

Danny Richar will make his first start of the spring on Monday. He tells the Chicago Tribune that he dealt with a back injury this winter, which is why he was limited to only 78 at-bats in the Dominican League. "I think everything is going to be OK," Richar says. "I trust myself and I'm ready to play hard and show them I'm ready." He is in a four-way battle for the starting second base job.

Danny Richar finally was able to report to the White Sox on Wednesday after he was able to clear up his visa issues that had delayed him in the Dominican Republic, this according to the Chicago Tribune. "I have enough time (to win the second base job)," Richar said. "Every day I have to work hard and show that I'm ready." Richard will battle Juan Uribe, Pablo Ozuna and Alexei Ramirez for the spot. Given that he struggled at the plate last season hitting .230 in 56 games, it is unknown if his stellar work with the glove will be enough to earn playing time at the start of the season.

Danny Richar is competing with Alexei Ramirez, Juan Uribe and Pablo Ozuna for the starting job at second, but he's not doing himself any favors by showing up late to spring training because of visa issues. GM Kenny Williams and manager Ozzie Guillen are not happy with Richar. "Every year we [have] the same situation with Latin players," Guillen told MLB.com. "I think the visa is there for a long time. I don't know the reason we - I say we because I was part of that in my career - we have to wait until the last minute for the visa, knowing it's a problem for everyone how to get it. I'm not happy about it. I know the situation is going to happen. I know it's not easy coming to this country. I think they send the visa with enough time where you don't have to be here late." Richar might have lost whatever leg up he had on the competition, though he'll surely arrive shortly.
