September 15, 2008
Yunel Escobar sat out Sunday's game with a strained right hamstring, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

September 11, 2008
Yunel Escobar helped the Braves sweep away the Rockies on Thursday night, when he capped off a five run six inning with a three run home run. The homer was Escobar's 10th of the year. Escobar ended the night with two runs scored to go along with his three hits.

Our View:Escobar extended his hit streak to 10 games tonight and is continuing to raise his average, which is up to .290. Escobar continues to be a good option at short stop.

July 23, 2008
Yunel Escobar, in his second game back in the lineup, had two hits and three RBI for the Braves.

Our View:This was the first sign of life we have seen from Esobar's bat in a while as he is hitting just .200 over his last 50 AB to drop his average to .284. Now that he is healthy, it stands to reason that the average could pick up a bit.
July 22, 2008

July 19, 2008
Yunel Escobar could be headed to the DL, as he just can't get over his left shoulder injury. The shortstop will be evaluated by team physician Dr. Xavier Duralde on Sunday, at which time the Braves will determine whether they need to place him on the disabled list, according to MLB.com. "He wants to play, and that's great," GM Frank Wren said. "But at the same time, we don't want him to jeopardize the rest of the season by playing a day or two too early."

Our View:We expect Escobar to land on the DL, as the Braves need to clear a roster spot for Rafael Soriano. He would be eligible to return next Friday.
July 18, 2008
Yunel Escobar is still being bothered by his inflamed left rotator cuff, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:He is able to take infield practice, but is not able to partake in batting practice due to the ailment. He is unlikely to start when the Braves open a home series against the Nationals on Friday.
July 13, 2008
Yunel Escobar will receive an MRI on his injured left shoulder and does not know if he will be ready to play after the All-Star break, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

July 11, 2008
MLB.com tells us that Yunel Escobar was scratched from Fiday night's lineup after reaggravating his left shoulder.

Our View:Yunel is hitting a meager .212 since returning from the injury and it is now clear that he never fully recovered. The Braves won't make the same mistake twice so another DL stint is quite possible.
July 6, 2008
Yunel Escobar went 4-for-9 in a 17 inning marathon against the Astros on Sunday. He added two RBI in the test of endurance.

Our View:Prior to the game, Escobar's average was at its lowest point of the season. After Sunday, it is up to .294. Expect his number to climb above .300 and finish the season there.
July 2, 2008
Yunel Escobar returned to the Braves' lineup on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. He was battling a strained left shoulder, but showed the team enough in batting practice to justify his return.

Our View:Escobar was hitting .296 with six homers, 30 RBI and 44 runs scored over 75 games, and fantasy owners should get the green light to return him to active duty if gets through tonight's game against the Phillies without any issues.
June 25, 2008

Yunel Escobar hit a two-run, walk-off homer in the 10th inning to lead the Braves over the Marlins on Monday night. The shortstop also has two singles on the night and finished with a pair of runs and three RBI.

Our View:Escobar had gone 11 games without an extra-base hit and had been in a bit of a funk. That's a nice way to snap out of it. He remains a useful player in all fantasy leagues.
May 23, 2008
Yunel Escobar is back in the lineup Friday after missing two games with a leg injury.

Our View:Escobar still has pain but is giving it a go. Don't be afraid to stick him back in your lineup.
May 22, 2008
Yunel Escobar's limp is gone but he is still experiencing some pain in his right leg. Still, he took batting practice on Thursday and hopes to be able to play on Friday, according to MLB.com.

May 18, 2008
Atlanta lead-off man SS Yunel Escobar got the Braves off on the right foot today and the team followed his lead, taking the 5-2 win over the Oakland A's. Escobar went 3-for-4 at the plate, all singles, to gather two RBIs and one run scored.

Our View:Escobar's batting average had soared to .333 earlier this month, but a steady decline since (now 9-for-42) has brought it back down. We'll see if he can keep it above .300.
May 8, 2008
Yunel Escobar had two hits and scored three runs for the Braves on Thursday.

Our View:Escobar is hitting .333 and now owns a .325 batting average in 436 career AB marking him as a terrific middle infield option in mixed leagues.
May 4, 2008

Our View:Escobar leads the Braves in walks with 15 and is second in runs with 20, and holds a .317 average. Martin Prado replaced him at shortstop. The exact illness, and it's severity, is yet to be disclosed.

Our View:Go ahead and insert the young shortstop back into your lineup.
April 28, 2008
Yunel Escobar is close to returning to the Braves' lineup, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Escobar said that most of the swelling in his left index finger was gone on Sunday, and he said he will be ready to return on Tuesday. Manager Bobby Cox stated that Escobar's status will be decided after he is evaluated again in Washington (the team starts a two-game series against the Nationals on Tuesday).

April 16, 2008
Yunel Escobar went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI in the Braves loss to the Marlins on Wednesday.

Our View:Escobar is hitting a spectacular .345 with three HR and 11 RBI in the early going seemingly proving that the success he enjoyed last year with the Braves was legit.
April 13, 2008
Yunel Escobar keeps on producing. He went 2-for-3 with a run on Sunday and extended his hitting streak to seven games. Escobar owns multiple hits in three of the last four contests.

Our View:If you thought last year's .328 average was a mirage, Escobar may be out to prove you wrong. We have a long, long way to go, but the second-year infielder looks every bit the .300 hitter thus far.
April 2, 2008
Yunel Escobar upped his average to .455 with a 2-for-3 outing on Wednesday night. Escobar also had a run scored and three RBI from the number two hole in the Braves lineup. Atlanta is counting on Escobar being able to replace the numbers that Edgar Renteria provided, and Escobar is certainly off to a good start toward accomplishing that goal through the first couple of days of the season.
March 30, 2008
Yunel Escobar failed to open his new campaign with a bang as he went 0-for-3 in Atlanta's 3-2 loss to Washington on Sunday night. He hit .326 over 319 at-bats last season, and is a sleeper candidate for 2008.
March 12, 2008
Yunel Escobar had a single in his lone at-bat Wednesday and now has collected a hit in all 11 games this spring. The shortstop is batting .517 with six RBI, though 12 of his 15 hits have been singles. It's pretty clear that Escobar, who batted .326 in 319 at-bats last year, can hit, but how much power he produces will ultimately determine where he falls on the fantasy totem pole.
March 8, 2008
Yunel Escobar continues to impress and give the fans of the Atlanta Braves reason to smile, hitting a double and single in three at-bats in Atlanta's 7-4 split-squad loss to the Houston Astros. Escobar has raised his spring average to .545 and has outstanding range and a strong arm in the field. Escobar batted .326 last year as a rookie, getting a chance to play regularly when Edgar Renteria was sidelined in August with a sprained ankle. Now Renteria is sporting a Detroit jersey and Escobar is getting his chance to shine. Thus far, it looks like they made the right move.

March 6, 2008
Yunel Escobar went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI on Thursday for the Braves. The bigger news might have been the fact that Escobar batted second in the lineup behind Kelly Johnson, the other player he appears to be battling for the leadoff spot in Atlanta.
February 22, 2008
Yunel Escobar likely will enter the first week of spring training as the team's leadoff hitter, though he figures to face a battle with Kelly Johnson for the spot, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Escobar hit .351 with a .400 OBP in 151 AB at the top of the Braves lineup last year, so if he can approximate those numbers this year the Braves will be extremely pleased, as would those who roster Escobar.
February 20, 2008
Yunel Escobar packed on a lot of muscle to his frame over the offseason, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The shortstop will be a regular for the first time in his major league career this year, and he's apparently wanting to add a bit more power to his game. Escobar hit .326 in 319 at-bats last year but managed just five longballs. The Cuban was already a legitimate sleeper, and this news only enhances that perception.
