With the opening day roster finalized in Toronto, it was easy to see which player was the big winner on Wednesday, this according to the Toronto Star. Randy Wells, a 25-year-old right-hander and off-season Rule 5 draftee from the Chicago Cubs, made his first big-league team. Wells will serve as the seventh man in the Jays' bullpen. He beat out left-handed prospect Jesse Carlson for the final spot but part of making the team prevented the Blue Jay from sending him back to the Chicago Cubs for half of the $50,000 they paid for his services. Wells did not allow a run in seven spring appearances.
