The Rockies optioned Edwin Bellorin to Triple-A Colorado Springs Tuesday. He was hitless in two at-bats with the big club.

Our View:With Yorvit Torrealba returning from suspension, Bellorin was no longer needed.

Catcher Edwin Bellorin has been recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs, according to the AP. The team made the move as Yorvit Torrealba serves his two-game suspension. To make room on the roster, the Rockies optioned infielder Jonathan Herrera to Triple-A.

Our View:Bellorin registered no hits over two at-bats with Colorada earlier this season, and will likely be sent back to Triple-A after Torrealba serves his suspension.

Edwin Bellorin has a chance to make the Rockies' roster if Chris Iannetta struggles with his bat this spring, according to the Denver Post. "If Chris is struggling and we decided that Chris would benefit from going back to Triple-A, that could happen," general manager Dan O'Dowd said Thursday. "We have a lot of faith in Edwin. He's got all the tools of a solid, No. 2 major-league catcher." Bellorin is out of minor league options, so he'll have to be traded or placed on waivers if he doesn't make the roster.

The Rockies placed Edwin Bellorin on the DL Wednesday with a strained left hamstring. Bellorin injured the hamstring Tuesday in his first major league at-bat, according to the Denver Post. The team recalled Alvin Colina from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take Bellorin's spot on the roster.

The Rockies called up Edwin Bellorin from Triple-A on Monday to back up Yorvit Torrealba behind the plate, according to the AP. "Edwin has done everything we've asked of him at Triple-A," manager Clint Hurdle said. "He's thrown well and been an offensive player for them and we'll get him involved here." Bellorin hit .326 with nine homers and 45 RBI at Triple-A, and he's unlikely to have any value as a backup.
