Newsbreakers
September 30, 2008
Eugenio Velez will be in the mix to start at second base next season for the Giants though GM Brian Sabean is "pulling for" Kevin Frandsen who is coming back from injury, according to The Mercury News.

Our View:Velez hit .262 with 15 steals in 275 AB this season and was particularly hot down the stretch hitting .328 over his last 45 appearances. As for Frandsen, he was in the mix to start at third base this season before injuring his Achilles tendon. Velez has the speed, so it would be best, from a fantasy perspective, if he were to win the job.

Eugenio Velez continued his hot hitting by stroking two hits in five trips to the plate on Sunday. Eugenio also scored a run while knocking one in for the Giants.

Our View:Velez is hitting .253 which certainly isn't impressive, but over his last 95 AB he has hit as if he belongs in the bigs with a .316 mark. He has enough speed to steal a base in any game, and as long as he continues to hit this effectively the Giants should continue to run him out there almost everyday.

Eugenio Velez went 2-for-4 on Thursday night with an RBI leaving him with four hits and five RBI in his last two games, not to mention at least one RBI in 4-straight contests.

Our View:Velez has an aura of confidence about him right now, and he is simply pounding the high fastball, a pitch that has been his bugaboo most of the year. Look for Velez to continue to get substantial playing time at second base with the way he is swinging right now.
September 10, 2008
For the second straight game, Eugenio Velez had a game winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Giants, this time a triple to score two runs in the Giants 4-3 victory over the D'backs.

Our View:Velez actually knocked in all four runs on the day and has six RBI in his last three games. He figures to continue to see a fair amount of work down the stretch as the Giants continue to audition players for 2009 making him a nice play in NL-only leagues.
August 30, 2008
Eugenio Velez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 7-6 loss to Cincinnati.

Our View:The homer marks the first of his MLB career. He now has five RBI over his last two outings.
