According to FishStripes.com, in the final inning of the final spring game, Alejandro De Aza suffered an ankle injury. The outfielder was down on the field for several minutes and had to be assisted off the field on a cart. The Marlins doctors performed X-ray on De Aza and are calling the ailment a left ankle sprain. It's an obvious assumption De Aza won't be ready for opening day. How much time he will miss is still unknown.

Alejandro De Aza had a tough day in the batters box against St. Louis on Thursday, as he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout, while stranding three men on base. His spring average remains fine at .317 but today's performance has not helped his chances to win a starting gig this season.
February 29, 2008
Alejandro De Aza apparently decided over the winter that he was going to add the longball to his repertoire. He went deep Friday for the second straight day while also adding a single and a stolen base. De Aza didn't have a single homer in 144 at-bats last year with the Marlins and has just 17 bombs in nearly 1,700 at-bats in his minor league career, so this is out of character for him. Cameron Maybin and Cody Ross, De Aza's competition for the center field job, went a combined 0-for-4 on the day. It's obviously still early, but De Aza certainly hasn't hurt his chances at a starting gig so far.
