The Chicago White Sox have recalled RHP Ehren Wassermann from Triple-A Charlotte, according to MLB.com. Wasserman has six saves in eight relief appearances for Charlotte this season, ranked third in the International League in saves. He has yet to allow a single base hit this season, having faced 24 batters thus far. Wasserman spent '07 bouncing back and forth between the main stage of the majors and Charlotte, going 1-1 with an ERA of 2.74 in 33 appearances with the White Sox. He held right-handed batters to a lowly .174 batting average.

Our View:The move comes as a result of a decision to send Mike MacDougal down to the minors, though he has improved dramatically over his struggles in the early games of the season.

Ehren Wassermann appears to have the lead over Nick Massett for the final spot in the White Sox's bullpen, according to the Chicago Tribune. "If you look at Ehren Wassermann's track record so far, [every time] Ozzie Guillen has brought him into the game, he has gotten it done," pitching coach Don Cooper said. "He's an asset and he gets ground balls." On the other hand, Massett got pounded for five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings Thursday. Wasserman had a wisdom tooth pulled Thursday, but not before working a scoreless inning in a minor league game. Massett has more experience in long relief and is out of options, but he may have pitched himself out of the competition, anyway.

The competition between Ehren Wassermann and Nick Massett for the final spot in the White Sox bullpen could come down to the end of spring training, according to the Chicago Tribune. "We don't know yet," pitching caoch Don Cooper said. "It's still to be determined and won't be till the last few days, I would guess." Wasserman has a 3.68 ERA this spring, while Masset's ERA is 4.05. However, Masset may have the overall advantage because he can pitch more innings than Wasserman and is out of minor league options.

Ehren Wassermann was called up by the White Sox partly because manager Ozzie Guillen saw him pitch in winter ball, the AP reports. "I stay away from winter ball usually," Guillen said. "It's up to the players. Some of them think if they don't play I'm going to punch them. That's not true. Wassermann talked to me about it and it worked for him. Winter ball helped him." Wassermann has been passable in his brief time in the Chicago bullpen, allowing five hits and four earned runs over 10 1/3 innings of work.
