The Detroit News speculates that the Tigers could go with Ramon Santiago at shortstop next season until prospect Cale Iorg is ready to contribute.

Our View:It still seems very early to be speculating, but Edgar Renteria has probably played his last game for the team.

Marcus Thames, LF

Tuesday 9/30, 2:26 PM CT

Manager Jim Leyland is high on Marcus Thames for 2009, according to the Detroit Free Press. Leyland said, "Marcus Thames will be a very valuable player for us. Thames will get playing time. We'll find plenty of playing time for Marcus. I'm so fond of Marcus Thames and what he's done."

Our View:Thames blasted 25 homers on only 316 at-bats this season, and looks to make a bigger impact in the power department in 2009, going by Leyland's plans for him.

Freddy Garcia, P

Monday 9/29, 7:16 PM CT

The AP reports that Freddy Garcia was forced to leave Mondays makeup game against the Chicago White Sox in the sixth inning because of a stiff right shoulder. He allowed just two hits into the sixth inning.

Our View:No word on how serious the injury is but Garcia should be expected to be ready to go by spring training.
